Italian car sales rise 8.2% in May, up 8.1% in first five months

On June 1, the Italian automobile manufacturers association (ANFIA) announced that passenger car registrations of 204,113 units in May increased 8.2% from the same month last year.
For the first five months of 2017, passenger car registrations of 948,051 units increased 8.1% over the same period in 2016.
Domestic brand sales increased 6.9% in May with a 29.5% market share, while foreign manufacturer sales increased 8.7% with a 70.5% market share.
In May, Fiat brand registrations increased 10.8% (22.4% market share), Volkswagen brand registrations increased 7.1% (7.3% share), Renault registrations decreased 3.2% (7.1% share), Ford registrations increased 9.4% (6.8% share), Peugeot registrations increased 13.3% (5.2% share), and Opel registrations increased 10.9% (5.1% share) from a year ago.
The foreign car distributors association (UNRAE) announced that diesel passenger car sales in May increased 5.3% (55.8% share), gasoline-powered car sales increased 8.0% (33.2% share), hybrid car (HV) sales increased 87.4% (3.3% share), and electric vehicle (EV) sales increased 46.2% (0.1% share).
Private car sales in May increased 0.7% to 111,552 units (54.4% share), fleet sales increased 4.4% to 51,764 units (25.2% share), and business sales increased 40.9% to 41,784 units (20.4% share).
