Italian car sales jump 18.2% in March, up 11.9% in first quarter

On April 3, the Italian automobile manufacturers association (ANFIA) announced that passenger car registrations of 226,163 units in March increased 18.2% over the same month last year, aided in part by one more selling day than in 2016.
For the first three months of 2017, passenger car registrations increased 11.9% to 582,465 units.
Domestic brand sales increased 21.6% in March with a 30.3% market share, while foreign manufacturer sales increased 16.7% with a 69.7% market share.
In March, Fiat brand registrations increased 19.9% (22.3% market share), Renault registrations increased 35.0% (7.3% share), Volkswagen brand registrations increased 14.9% (7.3% share), Ford registrations increased 19.7% (7.5% share), Opel registrations increased 25.0% (5.4% share), and Peugeot registrations increased 14.8% (5.1% share) from a year ago.
The foreign car distributors association (UNRAE) announced that diesel passenger car sales in March increased 17.6% (56.4% share), gasoline-powered car sales increased 15.9% (33.3% share), hybrid car (HV) sales increased 72.2% (2.5% share), and electric vehicle (EV) sales increased 9.0% (0.1% share).
Private car sales in March increased 5.4% to 125,237 units (55.1% share), fleet sales increased 36.6% to 62,500 units (27.5% share), and business sales increased 38.9% to 39,381 units (17.3% share).
