On February 2, the Italian automobile manufacturers association (ANFIA) announced that passenger car registrations of 171,556 units in January increased 10.1% over the same month in 2016.
Domestic brands in Italy showed an increase in sales of 12.7% in January with a 29.5% market share, while foreign manufacturers showed a 9.0% increase and a 70.5% market share.
In January, Fiat brand registrations increased 14.5% (21.8% market share), Renault registrations increased 0.9% (5.8% share), Volkswagen brand registrations increased 11.1% (7.7% share), Ford registrations increased 13.2% (7.4% share), Opel registrations increased 13.5% (5.4% share), and Peugeot registrations increased 16.5% (5.5% share) from a year ago.
The foreign car distributors association (UNRAE) announced that diesel passenger car sales in January increased 6.8% (55.0% share), gasoline-powered car sales increased 12.7% (33.8% share), hybrid car (HV) sales increased 40.9% (2.7% share), and electric vehicle (EV) sales increased 63.5% (0.1% share).
Private car sales in January increased 4.7% to 108,685 units (62.9% share), fleet sales increased 9.4% to 35,335 units (20.5% share), and business sales increased 33.2% to 28,647 units (16.6% share).
