Thai Midsize Sedans: Honda Accord Sales Lag as BEV Competition Grows
The 11th-generation Honda Accord e:HEV was launched in Thailand in October 2023, followed by an updated version with enhanced safety features in August 2025. However, sales remained sluggish, declining 1.4% year-on-year to 1,217 units in January–August 2026. In Thailand’s midsize sedan market, BEVs are gaining ground, with Chinese automakers leading the way. BYD launched the Seal in September 2023, followed by Great Wall Motor’s ORA 07 in November of the same year. In March 2026, MG, a subsidiary of SAIC Motor, launched the IM5. The BYD Seal sold 875 units in January–August 2026, approaching the Accord’s sales volume. Meanwhile, the Toyota Camry, a competitor to the Accord, maintained its leading position in the midsize sedan market, despite sales falling 41.6% year-on-year to 3,336 units over the same period. As BEVs expand the competitive landscape beyond traditional HEV sedans, the Accord will need to further strengthen its product appeal.

Distribution of Automotive Lamp Suppliers in Japan
Japan’s automotive lamp market is centered on three major suppliers: Koito Manufacturing, Stanley Electric, and Ichikoh Industries. Production facilities are distributed across major automotive industry hubs, primarily in the Tokai region, as well as Kanto, Chugoku, and Kyushu. Koito Manufacturing operates mainly in Shizuoka Prefecture, with additional facilities in Kyushu and elsewhere. Stanley Electric has production sites in Aichi, Shizuoka, Kanagawa, and Hiroshima, while Ichikoh Industries operates facilities in Kanagawa, Gunma, Oita, and other areas. Specialized component manufacturers also play an important role in the supply chain, including Okamoto Glass, which produces automotive lenses, and Daiichi Kasei and Fukuyama Gosei, which supply molded plastic components. This regionally rooted production network, together with the technical expertise of specialized component manufacturers, supports Japan’s automotive lamp supply chain.
