Summary
As environmental regulations become more stringent around the world, major automakers are announcing their electrification strategies. OEMs are planning to increase their lineup of electric vehicles as well as release new EVs between 2022 and 2025.
This report covers the electric vehicle expansion policies and release plans by category of BMW, Daimler, VW, Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi, PSA, and Tesla, provide a summary of the major EV and PHV models, and update the road maps related to electrification. Based on MarkLines vehicle sales by model data, this report also provides an aggregate of the vehicle sales of major electric vehicle models from 2015 to 2017.
The three major German OEMs are currently releasing PHV and EV variants of existing models and will expand their lineup of EVs from 2018. Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi will sequentially release new versions of its core models: the Nissan LEAF, Renault ZOE, and the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. In the future, the OEMs will adopt a common platform exclusively developed for EVs. PSA will also utilize a newly developed platform for electric vehicles and release EVs and PHVs. Tesla, which leads the luxury EV market segment, is now mass-producing affordable EVs with the release of its Model 3, and will expand its lineup of EVs to also include commercial vehicles.
The end of the report features a Global Hybrid and EV Forecast (second half of 2017) by LMC Automotive. The percentage of internal combustion engine vehicles (IC Only) for global light vehicle sales volumes will decrease from over 90% in 2018 to roughly 70% in 2025. Conversely, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and mild hybrid electric vehicles (MHEVs) featuring a 48V system will see remarkable growth.
The next report is scheduled to present an overview of Toyota, Honda, Hyundai/Kia, GM, and Ford's electrification strategies.
