Business Overview

-A lock manufacturer that provides a comprehensive range of key and keyless products to many industry areas such as automobile, housing, industrial instruments, etc.

-The Company's automotive parts division designs, develops and manufactures automobile key sets, door handles and other products.

  • The main products of the key set are electronic and intelligent keys, without teeth, that are supported by keyless technology.
  • The main handle products are grip door handles that utilize hollow and solid-core technologies. The Company also developed technologies including color plating and high corrosion resistant chrome plating handles.



Business Results Highlights

-The Company’s financial results for the fiscal year that ended in March 2019 are as follows.
Consolidated sales: JPY 60,344 million (2.2% increase year-over-year)
Operating income: JPY 3,215 million (0.1% increase year-over-year)
Ordinary income: JPY 3,291 million (5.5% increase year-over-year)
Current net profit attributable to the parent-company’s shareholders: JPY 2,139 million (5.7% increase year-over-year).
Sales generated by the automotive-parts business account for 83.6% of total consolidated sales.

 

Acquisition

-The Company announced that its Board of Directors adopted a resolution to acquire all outstanding shares of the French company Societe de Peinture de Pieces Plastiques (SPPP) and the Slovakian company SPPP Slovakia and have concluded a share purchase agreement. These 2 companies have been mainly engaged in the painting of automobile parts such as door mirror covers, door handles, etc. and have been highly esteemed by automotive part manufacturers and automobile manufacturers alike for their technical capabilities, high quality and cost competitiveness. The price agreed between SPPP's shareholders and ALPHA is EUR 22.187 million. (From a press release on October 2, 2018)

History

1923 Established as a manufacturer of metal parts for key cylinders.
1933 Started production of key sets for Nissan and Toyota Motor.
1943 Constructed Nagoya plant in Aichi Prefecture.
1944 Constructed Yamanashi Plant in Yamanashi Prefecture.
1963 Constructed Gunma Plant in Gunma Prefecture.
1964 Formed technical tie-up with Flexible, USA
1982 Constructed Yokohama Plant specialized in manufacturing automobile key sets in Yokohama.
1987 Established Alpha Technology Corporation (Altec), in Michigan, USA as a overseas production facility.
1990 Company name was changed to Alpha Corporation.
Headquarters were moved from Kamata, Ota-ward, Tokyo to Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture.
1992 Formed technical tie-up with Valeo, France.
1994 Introduced new automated production line for keys in Yokohama Plant.

June 2005 Liquidated its wholly owned Chinese manufacturing subsidiary Alpha (Taishan) Lock Industry Co., Ltd.

April 2007 Established a new plant at Alfa HI-Lex in El Marques, Queretaro, Mexico.
Jan. 2008 Supplied its electric steering lock to the Mazda Atenza.
