Summary

 This article will report on exhibits from eight passenger car OEMs from countries including Japan and South Korea (Japanese OEMs: Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, and Suzuki; South Korean OEM: Hyundai-Kia; Chinese-Israeli joint venture: Qoros Auto) based on information compiled by MarkLines at the 15th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition.

Toyota exhibits next potentially bestselling models: HVs, joint venture brand EVs, and all-new Vios/Yaris; some making a world premier

OEM model Summary
GAC Toyota Motor All-new Yaris  Made a world premier at the show. The latest model of the fully remodeled Yaris (a compact global strategic hatchback). Based on Dear 2box concept car revealed at Auto China held in April 2012.
 The body measures 4113mm in length, 1700mm in width, 1440mm in height with a wheelbase of 2550mm (the previous model measured 3915/1695/1545/2460mm, respectively). One of its main features is the larger body compared with its predecessor. The model will be produced at GAC Toyota's Guangzhou plant. Scheduled to be released at the end of 2013.
Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor All-new Vios  A global strategic compact sedan. Based on Dear 3box concept revealed at Auto China held in April 2012. The model will be produced at TIANJIN FAW TOYOTA's Tianjin plant. Scheduled to be released in the latter half of 2013.
 The body measures 4410mm in length, 1700mm in width, 1440mm in height with a wheelbase of 2550mm (the previous model measured 4300/1695/1490/2550mm, respectively). Details of the engine mounted on the all-new Vios for the Chinese market has not been released.
New RAV4  The latest model of the remodeled RAV4. The model will be produced at Tianjin FAW Toyota's Tianjin plant. Scheduled to go on the market in September 2013. It will be priced at about 200,000-250,000 RMB.
 The body measures 4570mm in length, 1845mm in width, 1660mm in height with a wheelbase length of 2660mm (the current model measures 4630/1845/1720/2660mm, respectively). The model uses a power system with a 2.5-liter (currently 2.4-liter) gasoline engine and a 6-speed AT (currently 4-speed AT).

OEM model Summary
Toyota Yundong Shuangqing II  Made a world premier at the show. A second generation concept model of the Yundong Shuangqing, a hybrid vehicle exclusive for the Chinese market. The body measures 4620mm in length, 1775mm in width, 1450mm in height with a wheelbase of 2700mm (the previous model measured 4650/1775/1450/2700mm, respectively). The  production model will be released around 2015.
 The model will have a hybrid component and a power system locally developed at Toyota's development center in China (Changshu, Jiangsu province).

 Made a world premier at the show. A six-seater concept model exclusive for the Chinese market. The body measures 4770mm in length, 1920mm in width, 1840mm in height with a wheelbase of 2900mm. The vehicle is designed to carry a total of six adult passengers. The major target customers are young Chinese drivers born in the 1980s. Its major competitors are the Honda Odyssey/Elysion and the Ford S-MAX.
 The low-floored vehicle has enough space between the first and the second rows for the passengers to move around freely. The passenger seat in the first row can be folded and rotated to face the passenger right behind them in the second row. It also has a large-size panoramic roof.
 Its production model is powered by a locally manufactured hybrid power system series also installed on the Yundong Shuangqing II. It has been reported that local production will start within two years (by 2015). The model will be priced at more than 250,000 RMB.
Tianjin FAW Toyota Ranz concept
(EV)
 The first production model concept car (an EV sedan) launched under Tianjin FAW Toyota's original brand "Ranz". The model is reportedly built on a platform used for the Toyota Corolla EX, which has some resemblance to the exterior of the concept car. Its production model will be released in 2014.
 Details on EV power system have not been released yet. A hybrid powered system version is also scheduled to be released later.

EV concept
 Made a world premier at the show. The first mass production concept launched under GAC Toyota Motor's original joint venture brand (an electric crossover SUV). The name of the brand was not released at the show. Its  production model will be released in 2015.
Lexus GS 300h
(HV)
 Lexus added the GS 300h, a sedan with a low-emission hybrid system, to its line-up. The model made a world premiere at the Shanghai Motor Show. The body measures 4850mm in length, 1840mm in width, 1455mm in height with a wheelbase of 2850mm. According to the OEM, its total fuel consumption is 6-liter/100km or less and the CO2 emissions level is 110g/km or less.
 It will be launched in countries in Asia including China, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as in Europe in the latter half of 2013. The vehicle was designed mainly targeting fleet users and business users.
 The HV power system combines a 2.4-liter direct injection D4-S type gasoline engine with dual VVT-I (maximum output of 133kW/6000rpm), a permanent magnet synchronous motor for the drive system, and a secondary chargeable nickel hydride battery for its drive system.

Nissan premiers HV concept targeting young generation born in '80s; all-new Teana also showcased

Nissan Teana
 The latest model of the fully remodeled Teana (Nissan's mid- to high-end strategic sedan). Also known as the "new generation Teana" in Chinese. The body measures 4868mm in length, 1830mm in width, 1490mm in height with a wheelbase of 2775mm. Its maximum speed is 190/210km/h. The time required to accelerate from zero to 100km/h is 11.9/9.7 seconds. It will be released in March 2013. List price will be between 177.800 and 244,800 RMB.
 The power system combines a 2-liter MR20DE four-cylinder gasoline engine with C-VTC (Continuous Valve Timing Control) (104kW output/190Nm maximum torque) or a 2.5-liter QR25DE four-cylinder gasoline engine with Dual C-VTC (137kW output/234Nm maximum torque) and the new XTRONIC CVT (also available in 7-speed mode). According to the OEM, it has a fuel economy of 5.5-liter/100km in the 90km/h mode.
Infiniti new

 Premiered in Asia (globally debuted at the Detroit auto show in January 2013). A new strategic sedan replacing the previous Infiniti G series. Scheduled to be released in spring of 2014. A model most likely to be manufactured in China. It has electronically controlled active steering (Direct Adaptive Steering) and Active Lane Control technologies.
 There are two versions available: gasoline engine and hybrid powered models.
  ▽Power system of the gasoline engine powered vehicle:
  It combines a 3.7-liter VQ37VHR model V6 drive gasoline engine with a 7AT with a manual mode. A version with a 2-liter turbocharged engine will also be added to the line-up later.
  ▽Power system for the hybrid powered vehicle:
  A 3.5-liter VQ35HR V6 hybrid drive gasoline engine (maximum output of 68ps (approximately 50kW)/maximum torque of 270Nm) combined with a 7AT with manual mode.

Note: According to an interview with a Shanghai Infiniti dealer at the show, the highest selling Infiniti brand model for 2012 on a volume basis was the G series (currently called as the Q series; including the G25) followed by the FX series (now called the QX series; includes the FX35 (standard version) with the EX series (now called the QX series; including the EX25) coming in at third place.

 Made a world premier at the show. A hybrid sports car concept (four-seater). The body measures 4540mm in length, 1820mm in width, 1340mm in height with a wheelbase of 2700mm. Co-developed by Nissan Global Design Center (NGDC) and Nissan Design China (NDC).
 The model targets about 240 million young Chinese, especially male, born in the 1980s (referred to as post-80s "80Hou" in China). The model is based on a concept reflecting the characteristics of this generation which values their own world and enjoy time spent with their friends at the same time. It is a model never seen before exclusive for the Chinese market.
 The four front and back seats are all independent. Every passenger in the car can share information such as the current speed, location navigation, and fuel level. The passengers can choose to enjoy listening to the same music together or each can listen to a different music of their choices  at their seat.
Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Venucia VIWA
(EV)
 A mass production EV hatchback concept under the original brand "Venucial" (five-door). VIWA is a made-up acronym which stands for Venucia, Identity, Worthy, and Accessible. It is one size smaller than Nissan's major EV model, the Leaf. Mass production will start in 2015. As of April 2013, this model is undergoing driving tests in Dalian, Liaoning province.
 Details on the EV power system have not been released yet, but according to Dongfeng Nissan, it will be installed with a system with a performance fulfilling daily transport distance of an average Chinese driver. There have also been reports that local manufacturing of gasoline engine models may begin in 2014.

Note: there have been some reports that Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle will release five new models based on the Nissan brand's former models, the Teana, March, Qashqai, Sylphy, and Livina and start local production by 2014 releasing them under the Venucia brand.

Honda premieres four models including Acura SUV concept to be manufactured in China

OEM model Summary
Guangqi Honda Automobile Crider  Made a world premier at the show. It features a powerful exterior with a design based on a dragon. A global strategic car developed by a team consisting mainly of Chinese developers targeting the Chinese market (a medium-size sedan). This model is based on the Honda Concept C premiered at the Auto China Beijing held in April 2012. It has the largest body in its class.
 The body measures 4650mm in length, 1750mm in width, and 1505mm in height. Planned to be manufactured at Guangqi Honda Automobile's Guangzhou plant and go into the market in June 2013 (the OEM started accepting advanced orders in April). It will be priced between the City and the Accord.
 Details on the EV power system have not been released yet, but there have been some reports that a 1.8-liter four-cylinder i-VTEC engine will be combined with a 5-speed MT/AT.
Dongfeng Honda Automobile JADE  Made a world premier at the show. A global strategic mini-van (five-seater/four+α seater) developed mainly targeting the Chinese market. It will be distributed around the world after making a debut in China. This model is based on the Honda Concept S premiered at the Auto China (Beijing) held in April 2012. It will be manufactured at Dongfeng Honda Automobile's Wuhan plant and go on the market in September 2013 (permits for production have already been granted from the Chinese government in May).
 The vehicle is powered by a 1.8-liter R18Z6 Dongfeng Honda Automobile production gasoline engine combined with a CVT (a 2-liter engine version will be made available later). It also has a Panasonic's China plant made OBD/ECU (AHX type) installed. Also available is an ECON mode which suppresses the air conditioner output and increases fuel economy.
 At the show, Honda commented that the JADE may be the seccessive model of the compact minivan, the Stream, in the Japanese market.
Honda Concept M  Made a world premier at the show. A MPV concept currently being developed in Japan targeting the Chinese market. Honda plans to introduce to the Chinese MPV market, where commercial vehicles dominate, the value of the MPV as a passenger car and provide both comfort with a spacious interior and the joy of driving at the same time.
 Specifications including the power system have not been confirmed. Its commercial model will be launched in 2014.

SUV-X
 Made a world premier at the show. A mass production SUV concept for the Chinese market. Honda announced that it will start local production of the mass production model around 2016.
 A global strategic vehicle developed mainly targeting the Chinese market. It will be distributed around the world after making a debut in China. This model was showcased as the Concept SUV-X at the Auto Shanghai 2013. A mass production model based on this concept car will be manufactured and sold in China within the next three years. This is the first Chinese made model under the Acura brand.

Note: the all-new Accord (U.S.-spec based), manufactured at Guangqi Honda Automobile and scheduled to be launched in the latter half of 2013, was not exhibited at the show.

Mazda exhibits CX-5 and the 3rd-generation Atenza/CX-7

OEM model Summary
FAW Car Mazda CX-7  A medium-size strategic SUV. The model will be switched from import to local production at the Changchun plant in summer of 2013 (The price of the imported model was priced at 290,800 RMB). As localization of production proceeds, 5-speed AT with a manual mode will be combined with the existing 2.5-liter MZR gasoline engine. Furthermore, a new all-wheel-drive model with a 2.3-liter direct injection turbo-charged gasoline engine will be added.

 The latest model of the fully remodeled Atenza (a sedan in the C/D segments). The most noticeable feature is Mazda's SKYACTIV technology. The body measures 4870mm in length, 1840mm in width, 1450mm in height with a wheelbase of 2830mm.
 the import and sale of the model will begin around mid-2013 and then switch to local production at FAW Car's Changchun plant by the end of 2013. This model will officially go on the market from January 2014 not as the new Mazda 6, but as the Mazda Atenza.
Changan Mazda Automobile Mazda CX-5  A new crossover SUV with SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY. The body measures 4555mm in length, 1840mm in width, 1710mm in height with a wheelbase lof 2700mm. Manufacturing will start at the Nanjing joint venture plant in mid-2013 (some reported to start from July). It will be priced at 180,000-240,000 RMB (the import model is 230,000-280,000 RMB).
 In addition to the 2.0-liter gasoline engine (SKYACTIV-G model) introduced to the imported model, 2.5-liter SKYACTIV-G gasoline engine will also be made available to enhance the line-up. Moreover, it will also feature Mazda's proprietary regenerative braking system i-ELOOP (around a 10% improvement on fuel consumption is expected with the introduction of this technology).

Mitsubishi exhibits Pajero Sport/Lancer Fortis designed for China, starting production from 2013

 Premiered in China. A reference model of Thai-made Pajero sports type off-road SUV (this model is called as "the Pajero Sport" in countries outside of Japan including Thailand). Its main targets are the middle-age generation born in the 1970s. This model will be manufactured at GAC Mitsubishi Motors' Changsha plant and go on the market in 2013 (June at the earliest). It will be priced between 198,000 and 298,000 RMB.

 A family car based on the  the tenth generation Lancer Fortis (a model of Lancer EX designed for Taiwan). It is position at a little higher class than Soueast Motor's existingproduction model, the Lancer EX (designed for China). Manufacturing will start at the Fuzhou plant and go on the market in the latter half of 2013. The price will start from 100,000 RMB.
 Information on details such as mounted equipment were not confirmed at this time, but there have been some reports that it will have a power system with a 1.8/2.0-liter engine combined with a MT/CVT and a 1.6-liter engine may also become available later as well.

Concept G4
 A reference exhibition. It premiered at 2013 Bangkok International Motor Show. The name G4 stands for Global 4-door Sedan; meaning it is a four-door sedan globally rolled out.
 It is a next generation global strategic compact sedan that featured Mitsubishi Motor's unique technology, @earth TECHNOLOGY (see "*Note" below).
 It has a power system with a 1.2-liter lightweight MIVEC engine and a CVT. "RISE" (Realized Impact Safety Evolution)--composed mostly of high tensile strength to reduce weight--is used for its body.

*Note: @earth TECHNOLOGY expresses Mitsubishi Motors ("MMC")' next-generation advanced technologies that achieve the MMC's concept, "Drive@earth". These technologies include: MMC's electric vehicle technology, technologies to reduce fuel consumption, MMC's traditional 4WD technology "Super Select 4WD", "Super All-Wheel Control(S-AWC)"which provides a balance between driving stability and the ultimate driving pleasure, enhanced collision-safety body- "Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution(RISE)," and advanced preventative safety technologies such as ACC and FCM.  A reference exhibition. Premiered in Asia (globally debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2013). The name CA means a vehicle with a compact body with state-of-the-art EV technology. It is a future EV concept (a five-seater hatchback) that realized Mitsubishi Motor'sunique next- generation technology, @earth TECHNOLOGY.
 The body measures 4050mm in length, 1775mm in width, 1550mm in height with a wheelbase of 2550mm. It weighs 1300kg. The maximum cruising range is 300km.
 This model has a lightweight EV component which integrates the motor, inverter, and charger to reduce electricity loss, a regenerative braking system, a drive motor with an output of 80kW, and a high capacity 28kWh lithium ion battery. It is also equipped with a plug-in battery charging system, a remote tracking feature in case of an auto-theft, and an Eco drive advice function.

Suzuki's full scale sedan concept car makes a world premiere; showcases new crossover to be manufactured locally

 A reference exhibition of the European production model. It is a crossover SUV in C-segment based on the S-Cross concept launched at the Paris Motor Show in September 2012. The body has gone through a weight reduction. The Chinese production model will be produced at Changan Suzuki's Chongqing plant  and made available to the market from the end of 2013.
 The body of the reference model measures 4300mm in length, 1765mm in width, 1575(1570)mm in height with a wheelbase of 2600mm. Compared to the SX4, current model in B segment, the measurements were extended by (L)165mm, (W)10mm, (H)10mm, and (Wh)100mm, respectively.
 Having made even further improvement from the i-AWD, the SX4 features the next generation, improved, all-wheel-drive with ALL GRIP system with four driving modes: AUTO, SPORT, SNOW, and LOCK. Also featured is the improved model of the M16 engine. A 1000mm large-size panoramic sunroof is also equipped.

 Made a world premier at the show. A new C segment, full scale sedan concept Suzuki is promoting to the Chinese market. This model was designed especially to provide the drivers with comfort and better fuel economy. The body measures 4600mm in length, 1815mm in width, 1390mm in height with a wheelbase of 2750mm.
 It has a long wheelbase with the lower height. With its sporty character lines and elegant curves, it has a body shape that is popular in the Chinese market. Its production model will be manufactured at Changan Suzuki Chongqing plant and will be released from the latter half of 2014.

Hyundai-Kia exhibits middle-class Hyundai brand sedan locally produced from 2013 and Kia's local brand concept car

OEM model Summary
Beijing Hyundai Motor Mistra  Made a world premier at the show. A middle-class sedan from Hyundai (model code: CF). This model is positioned between the eighth generation Sonata and the Langdong. It was developed with various equipment installed and a spacious interior to especially meet the needs of the Chinese market. Beijing Hyundai announced that the model will be produced by Beijing Hyundai and launched by the end of 2013 (November at the earliest). It will be priced at 150,000-200,000 RMB.
 The body measures 4700mm in length and characterized by a long wheelbase of 2770mm (the Sonata measures 2795mm). Its major competitors are the FAW-VW Sagitar and the Shanghai VW Excelle GT. The vehicle is powered by a 1.8/2.0-liter engine and a 6-speed MT/AT with a manual mode. In addition to keyless entry and LED cornering lamps, the highest class model is equipped with a radar warning system, a rear-viewing monitor system, and a panoramic roof.
Beijing Hyundai Motor all-new
Santa Fe
 The latest model of the third generation Santa Fe (a two-row five-seater/three-row seven-seater full-sized all-wheel-drive SUV). The body measures 4690mm in length, 1880mm in width, 1690mm in height with a wheelbase of 2700mm. Local production and sales began in December 2012. Its listed price is between 219,800 and 309,800 RMB.
 This vehicle is powered with a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine or a 3.0-liter V6 GDI Lambda II gasoline engine (maximum output of 194kW/maximum torque of 306Nm) combined with a 6AT with a manual mode.
 The standard version has front-seat airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags, HAS (Hill Start/Stop Assist System), vehicle safety system VSM/ESP (=ESC), automatic cruise control system (ACC), keyless entry system, rear radar warning system, automatic anti-glare rear-view mirror, panoramic roof, and roof rails.  Premiered in China (globally debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2013). A new version of the Santa Fe with a longer wheelbase (a three-row, six/seven-seater full-sized SUV; model code: NC). The mport and sale of the model will begin within 2013.The body measures 4915mm in length, 1885mm in width, 1695mm in height with a wheelbase of 2800mm. Compared to the new Santa Fe, the measurements were extended by (L)225mm, (W)5mm, (H)5mm, and (WH)100mm, respectively. It has a maximum speed of 207km/h.
 For its power system, it combines a 3.0-liter (maximum output of 194kW/maximum torque of 306Nm) or a 3.3-liter (maximum output of 210kW/maximum torque of 337Nm) Lambda II model, V6 GDI direct injection gasoline engine with a 6AT with a manual mode.
 The vehicle is equipped with six airbags, an automatic parking system, lane-departure warning system, TPMS, ESC (Electronic Stability Control =ESP), a super-long panoramic roof, car navigation system, rear radar warning monitoring system, and BlueLink system.

 The first concept car (EV) under the Dongfeng-Yueda-Kia Motor joint venture brand, the Horki, based on the locally-manufactured new Kia Cerato.
 Its production model is positioned as the OEM's high-end model. The automaker only commented at Auto Shanghai 2013 that it will decide when to launch the product based on the needs of the Chinese market, but there have been some reports that it will go on the market in 2015 (2014 at the earliest).
 A meshed front grill, slit-shaped headlights, and sporty line of the rear body are the major characteristics of this model.

Note: Hyundai displayed a 6AT with a manual mode which are installed on the production models of Beijing Hyundai Motor, two imported 1.6/2-liter engines with turbochargers, Blue Link system on the all-new Santa Fe, and a miniature model of My Baby concept car.

Qoros Auto presented sedans for production from 2013 and two new models to be released.

OEM model Summary
Qoros Auto Qoros 3 sedan  Globally debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2013. This is the first production model under the Qoros brand (a C segment four-door sedan; model code: CF11). It has a longer wheelbase of 2,690mm for a compact segment model with the body measuring 4615mm in length, 1839mm in width, 1445mm in height. This model was designed for young drivers over 25 years old buying a passenger car for the first time.
 This model is built on a modularized platform. Production will start from the latter half of 2013 and launched in both China and Europe at the same time. It will be priced between 130,000 and 180,000 RMB.
 It combines a 1.6-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine (93kW maximum output/155Nm maximum torque) or  a turbocharger (115kW maximum output/210Nm maximum torque) with a Getrag 6-speed MT/DCT and a start/stop mechanism (STT).
 Standard equipment includes an eight-inch touch screen infotainment system, Bosch ABS/ESC, front airbags for front seats, and side and curtain airbags. Also rear-view cameras for parking controls, xenon headlights, ACCs, and automatic anti-glare rear-view mirrors are optionally available.
Qoros 3 Estate  Made a world premier at the show. This is the first wagon concept sold under the Qoros brand also to be released in Europe (model code: CF18). The body measures 4615mm in length, 1839mm in width, 1445mm in height with a wheelbase of 2690mm. Planned for the release in 2014.
 It uses the same modularized platform as the Qoros 3 sedan. Its luggage space is 500 liters expanding to a total of 1405 liters with the rear seats folded.

 Made a world premier at the show. A hybrid crossover SUV concept (all-wheel-drive, five-door; model code: CF14). The body measures 4445mm in length and 1839mm in width with a wheelbase  of 2690mm. Height is not released. Its luggage space is 400 liters. The minimum ground clearance is 80mm. This model is built on a modularized platform.
 The hybrid power system was co-developed with a U.S company, American Axle (AAM). It has a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder, turbocharged gasoline engine (maximum output of 97kW), combined with a drive motor placed between the luggage space and the rear axle (maximum output of 50kW), an ISG generator placed between the engine and the transmitter, and a  lithium ion battery unit (maximum capacity of 1.9kWh).
 Time required to accelerate from zero to 100km/h is 7.3 seconds. The maximum speed in EV mode is 120km/h and the cruising range is 4km.

Note: Qoros is the 50-50 joint venture between the Israel Idan Ofer and Chery Automobile in Changshu, Jiangsu province. At Shanghai Auto 2013, the joint venture announced its plans to launch the Qoros 3 sedan at the end of 2013 and  to release one new model every half or one year. It also announced that the OEM will establish a complete sales network in Europe by 2015.
 Additionally, Qoros announced the co-develppment of a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder (maximum output of 97kW), and  a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder (maximum output of 118kW), turbocharged gasoline engines compliant with Euro 6 gas emission standards. The engines are developed jointly with AVL List GmbH (AVL; a powertrain system company which also collaborated with Chery Automobile in engine development in the past) and Magna.
