On August 2, Tesla was found partially negligent in its Autopilot (AP) system in a 2019 fatal crash in Miami, Florida and was ordered to pay $242.5 million in damages. This decision could affect other legal cases and government investigations, and might lead to a recall. Tesla has been responsible for 86.5% of fatal accidents involving ADAS-equipped vehicles since 2021, and has been found to have engaged in misleading marketing and inadequate explanation of the operational design domain (ODD) . Furthermore , Musk's robotaxi business, which launched in Austin in June , has long been a campaign promise, but its limited operation requires safety drivers and remote monitoring, raising questions about its safety and regulatory compliance. This raises red flags for future expansion of the service area.
Furthermore , Tesla disbanded the Dojo supercomputer team led by Peter Bannon and shifted its focus to collaboration with Nvidia, AMD, and Samsung . In addition to sluggish global sales, Tesla is currently facing a variety of problems, including legal and financial implications, challenges with its robotaxi business, declining customer loyalty and trust, and declining internal resources and morale. Tesla is at a critical juncture as to whether it can continue to be one of the world's leading innovative companies.
