Summary
The World Smart Energy Week 2020 (period: February 26 - 28, 2020, venue: Tokyo Big Sight) was held amid concerns regarding the effects of the new-type coronavirus COVID-19. Visitors were subject to thermographic scans to check temperatures and were encouraged to wear facemasks. Some exhibitors canceled their appearances, while others had only explanatory panels at their booths, choosing to not have staff members on-site.
This report will focus primarily on the exhibitions at the 11th International Rechargeable Battery Expo (Battery Japan), held at the Aomi exhibition hall, and will also introduce exhibitions related to electric vehicles from the 8th International Wind Energy Expo (Wind Expo 2020), the 10th International Smart Grid Expo held at the west exhibition hall, as well as the 13th International Photovoltaic Power Generation Expo (PV Expo). While overall exhibition content had decreased, the number of exhibition booths was close to average. Many exhibitions included lithium-ion batteries, electric double-layer capacitors, charging-related equipment, and other devices that utilize natural energy.
