Best September in nine years as PV growth resists economic uncertainty

- In September, the Western European Passenger Vehicle (PV) market grew for an eighth consecutive month as sales reached 1.2 mn units, up 8.6% year-on-year (YoY). The monthly selling rate stood at 12.7 mn units/year, while year-to-date (YTD) sales reached 9.4 mn units, up 6.1% YoY.
- After the strong August holiday season performance, the Western European PV market performed well once again. Aggregate sales volumes recorded their highest September result since 2017. Four of the region’s big five markets expanded by double digits YoY, with Germany not far behind at 9.0%. The broad themes of Chinese brands and electrification were in assistance once again.
- GlobalData has upgraded its 2026 Western European PV forecast to above 12.2 mn units, up 3.8% from 2025’s full-year result, as market competitiveness and EVfocused policy drives demand. A note of caution remains going forward due to economic headwinds.
