New energy vehicle production increases by 156% y/y, exceeding 100,000 units in January

Production volume of new energy vehicles (excluding vehicles equipped with a lead-acid battery) in January 2019 increased by 156% year-over-year (y/y). Although the new energy car market seemed favorable, production by some automakers declined. Of the automakers, production by Beiqi New Energy Automobile for its BAIC brand passenger EVs significantly declined by 97.8% y/y. Production volumes of new energy vehicles in January for electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHVs) accounted for 78% and 22%, respectively, of the production share. By vehicle type, production volumes of passenger cars, buses, and special-purpose vehicles accounted for 90%, 8%, and 2%, respectively, of the share.
