Renesas develops new flash memory for automotive microcontroller based on 28nm process

Renesas Electronics Corporation (Renesas) announced that it has developed new flash memory technology for automotive microcontroller based on 28nm process. Recently in leading edge technologies used in car systems, such as autonomous driving and electric drive, there have been increasing demands for larger embedded flash memory capacities in the MCUs due to the increasing scale of the control software. Since it is necessary to assure real time performance, faster random access read time from the flash memory also desired. Furthermore, regarding OTA, low noise design, reduced down time, and robustness are also required. In response to these demands, the company introduced its new technologies such as 24MB on chip flash memory, 240MHz random access read speed, noise reducing technology, and OTA capable of control high speed software switching that is both robust and high speed. The technologies will demonstrate at the 2019 Symposia on VLSI Technology and circuit. (From a press release on June 12, 2019)
