Nissan lays off 1,000 workers at two Mexican plants due to sales decrease

Due to the decrease in sales in both Mexico and the United States, Nissan Mexicana will lay off 1,000 workers in the production lines at the Aguascalientes (plant 1 and 2) and Cuernavaca plants.
The dismissals will begin in January, but Nissan does not disclose yet how many of these employees correspond to each of the plants or detailed how much production will be reduced.
From January to November, Nissan sales in Mexico decreased by 14.3% to 282,432 vehicles and production at Mexican plants dropped by 9% to 717,108 units. In the United States, its sales so far this year have fallen 7.6%, while its Mexico-made vehicles, such as the Versa, have declined more than 30%.
Currently, Nissan operates three plants in Aguascalientes,; two of its own and one in joint-venture with Daimler. The layoffs will only be applied to the Nissan plants where the Kicks, March, Versa and Sentra vehicles are manufactured, as well as in Cuernavaca, where the NP300 Frontier and a variant for Renault are built.
