August sales in China: all four Japanese OEMs keep y/y growths

By September 5, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, and Mazda announced their sales results in China for August 2017. Sales at all four companies increased year-over-year (y/y), with Nissan, Toyota and Honda achieving double-digit increases. Honda retained the top Autust sales ranking among Japanese automakers.
Nissan announced that it sold 122,319 vehicles in China, which was a 17.8% rise y/y contributed by strong sales of Teana, Sylphy, X-Trail, Qashqai and Murano. The company’s year-to-date (YTD) sales from January reached 877,638 vehicles, up 9.0% y/y.
Toyota sold approximately 108,500 vehicles, a 13.2% increase y/y. The automaker enjoyed strong sales of models including the Corolla, Vios, Levin and Highlander. Toyota’s YTD sales reached 841,400 vehicles, up 7.1% y/y.
On September 4, Honda announced the record August sales at 128,671 vehicles in China, which was a y/y increase of 20.6%. By model, strong sales of the Civic, Elysion, Jade and XR-V contributed to sales growth. Honda’s YTD sales reached 886,641 units, up 18.0% y/y.
On September 4, Mazda announced that the sales for the month in China at 25,612 units, growth of 8.4% y/y. Sales increased thanks to strong demand for CX-4 and Mazda3 Axera. The automaker’s YTD sales reached a record high of 184,184 units, up 13.2% y/y.
