May sales in China: all four Japanese OEMs keep y/y increases

By June 6, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, and Mazda announced their sales results in China for May 2017. Sales at all four companies increased year-over-year (y/y), with Honda and Mazda achieving double-digit increases again. Honda kept the top May sales ranking among Japanese automakers.
Nissan announced that it sold 112,085 vehicles in China, which was a 5.7% rise y/y contributed by firm sales of Teana, Sylphy and Qashqai. The company’s year-to-date (YTD) sales from January reached 531,756 vehicles, up 6.2% y/y.
Toyota sold approximately 112,800 vehicles, a 9.6% increase y/y. The automaker enjoyed strong sales of models including the Corolla and RAV4.
On June 2, Honda announced the record May sales at 115,584 vehicles in China, which was a y/y increase of 16.2%. By model, strong sales of the Civic and firm sales of Accord contributed to sales growth. Honda’s YTD sales reached 530,398 units, up 19.0% y/y.
On June 2, Mazda announced that the record sales for the month in China at 25,093 units, growth of 27.9% y/y. Sales increased thanks to strong demand for all models equipped with Skyactive Technology including the Mazda3 Axela. The automaker’s YTD sales reached a record high of 112, 367 units, up 15.4% y/y.
