Brazilian vehicle sales increase 37.4% to 220,842 units in April (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) in April 2024 of 220,842 units represented an increase of 37.4% from April 2023.
Vehicle sales in April consisted of 164,385 passenger cars; 43,963 light commercial vehicles; 10,758 trucks; and 1,736 buses.
Among passenger vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 34,277 units (20.9% share), VW sold 27,821 units (16.9%), GM sold 24,764 units (15.1%), Hyundai sold 15,594 units (9.5%) and Toyota sold 12,639 units (7.7%).
Among light commercial vehicle manufapcturers, FCA sold 19,178 units (43.6% share), VW sold 5,621 units (12.8%), GM sold 5,096 units (11.6%), Toyota sold 4,793 units (10.9%), Ford sold 2,978 units (6.8%).
The VW Polo was the best-selling passenger vehicle in April with 12,434 sales, followed by the Chevrolet Onix with 9,087 sales, Fiat Argo with 8,599 sales, Hyundai HB20 with 8,194 sales, Chevrolet Onix Plus with 7,049 sales, VW T Cross with 6,224 sales, and GM Tracker with 5,670 sales.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling commercial vehicle in April with 11,497 sales, followed by the VW Saveiro with 5,373 sales, Toyota Hilux with 4,792 sales, Fiat Toro with 3,896 sales, GM Montana with 2,534 sales, Chevrolet S10 with 2,473 sales, and Ford Ranger with 2,382 sales.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were up 31.1% y/y to 165,610 units (79.5% share), diesel vehicles were up 20.5% to 19,957 units (9.6%), gasoline vehicles increased 96.5% to 7,581 units (3.6%), hybrid vehicles increased 57.1% to 4,893 units (2.3%), Plug-in hybrid vehicles increased 224.2% to 3,608 units (1.7%) and electric vehicles increased 1,100.5% to 6,699 units (3.2%).
On April 9, Scotiabank maintained its previous March forecast, estimating full-year Brazilian sales of 2.27 million units in 2024 and 2.38 million units in 2025.

Brazilian vehicle sales decrease 5.7% to 187,731 units in March (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) in March 2024 of 187,731 units represented an decrease of 5.7% from March 2023.
Vehicle sales in March consisted of 137,918 passenger cars; 38,312 light commercial vehicles; 9,887 trucks; and 1,614 buses.
Among passenger vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 29,174 units (21.2% share), VW sold 25,908 units (18.8%), GM sold 17,488 units (12.7%), Toyota sold 11,436 units (8.3%) and Hyundai sold 10,826 units (7.8%). Among light commercial vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 18,520 units (48.3% share), VW sold 4,872 units (12.7%), GM sold 3,977 units (10.4%), Toyota sold 3,499 units (9.1%), Renault sold 2,020 units (5.3%).
The VW Polo was the best-selling passenger vehicle in March with 11,943 sales, followed by the Chevrolet Onix with 7,753 sales, Fiat Argo with 6,850 sales, VW T Cross with 5,462 sales, Hyundai HB20 with 5,288 sales, Nissan Kicks with 5,034 sales, and Chevrolet Tracker with 4,711 sales.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling commercial vehicle in March with 9,990 sales, followed by the VW Saveiro with 4,607 sales, Fiat Toro with 3,957 sales, Toyota Hilux with 3,498 sales, GM Montana with 2,165 sales, Ram Rampage with 2,133 sales, and Chevrolet S10 with 1,740 sales.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were down 10.5% y/y to 138,786 units (78.8% share), diesel vehicles were down 21.4% to 16,060 units (9.1%), gasoline vehicles increased 57.8% to 7,776 units (4.4%), hybrid vehicles increased 32.4% to 4,454 units (2.5%), Plug-in hybrid vehicles increased 48.4% to 3,022 units (1.7%) and electric vehicles increased 950.0% to 6,132 units (3.5%).
On March 8, Scotiabank maintained its previous January forecast, estimating full-year Brazilian sales of 2.27 million units in 2024 and 2.38 million units in 2025.

Brazilian vehicle sales increase 27.1% to 165,225 units in February (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) in February 2024 of 165,225 units represented an increase of 27.1% from February 2023.
Vehicle sales in February consisted of 120,337 passenger cars; 35,174 light commercial vehicles; 8,376 trucks; and 1,338 buses.
Among passenger vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 29,388 units (24.4% share), VW sold 19,535 units (16.2%), GM sold 12,542 units (10.4%), Hyundai sold 11,877 units (9.9%) and Toyota sold 10,036 units (8.3%). Among light commercial vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 16,062 units (45.7% share), VW sold 4,373 units (12.4%), GM sold 4,006 units (11.4%), Toyota sold 3,437 units (9.8%), Ford sold 2,290 units (6.5%).
The VW Polo was the best-selling passenger vehicle in February with 8,063 sales, followed by the Fiat Argo with 6,507 sales, Fiat Mobi with 6,288 sales, Renault Kwid with 6,046 sales, Hyundai HB20 with 5,287 sales, Hyundai Creta with 4,385 sales and Chevrolet Onix with 4,299 sales.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling commercial vehicle in February with 8,568 sales, followed by the VW Saveiro with 4,127 sales, Toyota Hilux with 3,436 sales, Fiat Toro with 3,044 sales, Ram Rampage with 2,101 sales, Chevrolet S10 with 2,020 sales, and Ford Ranger with 1,885 sales.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were up 22.4% y/y to 121,596 units (78.2% share), diesel vehicles were up 24.1% to 16,371 units (10.5%), gasoline vehicles increased 132.3% to 7,099 units (4.6%), hybrid vehicles increased 35.0% to 3,304 units (2.1%), Plug-in hybrid vehicles increased 189.0% to 3,509 units (2.3%) and electric vehicles increased 469.3% to 3,632 units (2.3%).
On February 8, Scotiabank maintained its previous January forecast, estimating full-year Brazilian sales of 2.27 million units in 2024 and 2.38 million units in 2025.

Brazilian vehicle sales increase 13.1% to 161,615 units in January (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) in January 2024 of 161,615 units represented an increase of 13.1% from January 2023.
Vehicle sales in January consisted of 118,523 passenger cars; 33,724 light commercial vehicles; 8,217 trucks; and 1,151 buses.
Among passenger vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 25,245 units (21.3% share), VW sold 18,154 units (15.3%), GM sold 15,070 units (12.7%), Hyundai sold 14,079 units (11.9%) and Toyota sold 10,519 units (8.9%). Among light commercial vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 15,522 units (46.0% share), VW sold 3,991 units (11.8%), GM sold 3,852 units (11.4%), Toyota sold 3,280 units (9.7%), Ford sold 2,096 units (6.2%).
The Hyundai HB20 was the best-selling passenger vehicle in January with 7,478 sales, followed by the VW Polo with 7,258 sales, Chevrolet Onix with 5,714 sales, Hyundai Creta with 4,898 sales, Fiat Argo with 4,696 sales, GM Tracker with 4,280 sales and Nissan Kicks 4,074 sales.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling LCV in January with 8,022 sales, followed by the VW Saveiro with 3,631 sales, Toyota Hilux with 3,277 sales, Fiat Toro with 3,219 sales, GM Montana with 1,792 sales, Ford Ranger with 1,776 sales, and Ram Rampage with 1,685 sales.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were up 8.6% y/y to 117,776 units (77.4% share), diesel vehicles were up 5.8% to 15,762 units (10.4%), gasoline vehicles increased 134.8% to 6,687 units (4.4%), hybrid vehicles increased 82.2% to 3,879 units (2.5%), Plugin hybrid vehicles increased 135.3% to 3,789 units (2.5%) and electric vehicles increased 477.5% to 4,354 units (2.9%).
As of January 17, Scotiabank expected that Brazil's full-year sales for 2024 and 2025 will be 2.27 million and 2.38 million, respectively. Full-year sales in 2023 were 2,308,689 units, up 9.7% from the previous year.
