On April 25, at the Auto China 2024 in Beijing, Kia unveiled new electrification technologies, new products, and a range of star models. The Sonet, a global entry-level SUV, was officially launched. It is available in two variants priced at CNY 91,900 and CNY 100,900, respectively.

Positioned as a “next-generation intelligent SUV”, the Sonet is specifically developed for contemporary young people. The vehicle adopts the “Bold & Wild” exterior design concept to present a trendy and fashionable look. It measures 4,110mm long, 1,790mm wide, and 1,625mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,500mm.

Powered by a 115PS/144Nm 1.5L Smartstream engine, an intelligent variable transmission, and an FWD system, the Sonet delivers a top speed of 175km/h and a WLTC combined fuel consumption of 6.29L/100km.

The Sonet comes standard with a 4.2- or 10.25-inch color LCD instrument panel and a 10.25-inch multimedia touch screen. The high-spec variant is available with configurations such as a Level 2 intelligent driver assistance system (optional for the low-spec variant), the Kia Connect system, the Baidu Intelligent Connectivity System 3.0, and mobile phone wireless charging panels.

Also introduced was a Kia innovative black technology called Uni Wheel, a functionally integrated wheel drive system. Dividing the conventional drivetrain into separate modules, the system moves components such as universal joints, half shafts, and reduction gears inside the four wheel hubs and places a single compact motor near each wheel to empower it with a completely independent driving force. Electric vehicles equipped with the system offer a larger passenger space and a longer range.

Furthermore, blockbuster models under Kia’s electrification transformation, such as the EV5, the EV6, the Sportage, the Seltos, and the Carnival; a Kia Level 4 intelligent driver assistance technology; and cutting-edge technologies in the industry, such as 10 sustainable healthy and eco-friendly materials, were exhibited.
