Its roots date back to U.S.-based Navteq established in 1985, which was acquired by Finland-based Nokia in 2007. Subsequently, a consortium of German car companies (Audi, BMW, and the Mercedes-Benz group) owns a 40% stake, the U.S. semiconductor company Intel and Japan's Mitsubishi Corporation have relatively majority stakes, and other companies have minority stakes.
