On July 20, FAW Toyota announced that it recently saw the first new Prado SUV roll off the production line at its Chengdu plant.

The new Prado adopts the core design concept of the Land Cruiser series. It features a Toyota Pilot advanced intelligent driving system and the newly upgraded Toyota Space. It is powered by an HEV system consisting of a 288V high-voltage AC motor, a longitudinally mounted 2.4T engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Features such as EPS (Electric Power Steering) and Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism (SDM) are used in a Toyota vehicle for the first time, ensuring both the maneuvering stability in off-road scenarios and driving comfort in urban scenarios.

On July 17, FAW Group announced the recent signing of a strategic cooperation framework agreement for vehicle-road-cloud integration with the Changchun Municipal People’s Government, China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd., and China Intelligent and Connected Vehicles (Beijing) Research Institute Co., Ltd.

According to the agreement, all parties will fully leverage their respective advantages to deepen cooperation in areas such as cloud-controlled platform establishment, road-cloud-network facility construction, and joint operation for in-depth integration among the automotive industry, information and communication technology, intelligent cities, and intelligent transportation.

Changchun was recently selected as one of the cities for pilot application of vehicle-road-cloud integration. The signing of the aforementioned agreement signifies that the four parties have entered a new stage of strategic cooperation on vehicle-road-cloud integration and will jointly promote the deployment of vehicle-road-cloud integration in Changchun.

On July 10, FAW Group announced that the FAW Hongqi 3rd-generation Level 4 Robotaxi has been successfully licensed for unmanned road testing in the Beijing Intelligent Connected Vehicle Policy Pilot Zone (the Zone). This makes FAW Group the only Chinese OEM with such a license.

The FAW Hongqi 3rd-generation Level 4 Robotaxi has been tested on more than 100,000km of open roads for autonomous driving in the Zone, covering over 90% of roads in the Zone. The autonomous driving system in the model integrates multiple safety protection features such as perceptual redundancy, computational redundancy, executive redundancy, and remote cloud chauffeuring.
