Japan Mobility Show 2025 opens its doors
The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) has kicked off the Japan Mobility Show 2025 at Tokyo Big Sight, running from October 29 to November 9. Press days take place on October 29 and 30, with the show opening to the public on October 31.
The event is being held under the theme “A unique opportunity to explore mobility’s future”. This year’s show has attracted a record 517 companies and organizations (as of October 15), surpassing the previous edition. Exhibitors include not only major players from the automotive industry, but also companies from other sectors and numerous startups. In addition, 42 overseas companies and organizations are taking part.
Japanese automakers exhibited as follows:
- Four Toyota Group brands showcased their latest innovations through booth exhibits and press briefings. Toyota unveiled the world premiere of its next-generation Corolla concept model and the new Land Cruiser FJ, a two-row, five-seater SUV. Daihatsu presented a range of concept vehicles, including the Midget X. Century, newly positioned as the company’s flagship brand, revealed its brand concept and a coupe-style concept model. Lexus also unveiled the LS Concept, the brand's first six-wheeled vehicle.
- Honda exhibited the Honda 0 Series electric vehicle (EV), scheduled for global launch in 2026. The flagship prototype, the Honda 0 Saloon, and the Honda 0 SUV, a mid-size SUV prototype to be released as the first in the series, were unveiled for the first time in Japan, along with the world premiere of the new Honda 0 α SUV prototype. In addition, the small size EV “Super-ONE Prototype” made its world debut.
- Nissan held the world premiere of its all-new Elgrand minivan, and also exhibited the Patrol full-size SUV, the N7 mid-size EV sedan (launched in China in April 2025), and the Micra B-segment EV hatchback (announced for the European market in May).
- Mitsubishi Motors unveiled the ELEVANCE Concept, an electric crossover SUV concept car.
Overseas automakers included Mercedes-Benz, BMW, MINI, and BYD, as well as Hyundai Motor (making its first appearance) and Kia (Kia PBV Japan).
- Among Chinese automakers, BYD exhibited 13 vehicles in total, including 8 passenger cars (one world premiere and three Japan premieres) and 5 commercial vehicles (one world premiere and one Japan premiere). In the passenger car lineup, the mini EV “RACCO” made its world debut. Three models were unveiled in Japan for the first time: the plug-in hybrid (PHV) mid-size SUV “Sealion 6 DM-i” (Chinese name: Song Plus), the new electric compact SUV “ATTO 3” (Chinese name: Yuan Plus), and the high-end Yangwang brand’s high-performance EV supercar “U9.” EV venture Folofly also unveiled the ZEEKR 009 electric MPV from Geely Auto’s premium EV brand Zeekr, marking its Japan debut.
- Hyundai, a Korean automaker making its first appearance at the event, unveiled the all-new NEXO, a new fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) compact crossover SUV, for the first time in Japan. Kia (Kia PBV Japan) exhibited the PV5 Cargo and PV5 Passenger, the first models in its PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) lineup of electric vans developed using a platform specifically for electric vehicles. These models are scheduled for release in Japan next spring.
- Among non-automakers, Sharp exhibited the second version of its LDK+ concept model, developed based on Hon Hai Technology Group's (Foxconn) Model A EV.
- In addition to company exhibits, the venue features a main program of mobility displays and experiences built around three key themes: FUTURE, CULTURE, and CREATION.
