JMS 2023: Toyota displays EV and mobility concepts to meet diverse user needs

・The President and Representative Director of Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) Mr. Koji Sato took the stage at the press briefing at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 (JMS 2023) being held at Tokyo Big Sight.

・Under the theme of "Find Your Future," he introduced future car stories driven by three types of mobility. The first mobility is the EVs (electric vehicles) that the company is aiming for under the slogan "Battery EVs made by a true car maker”. President Sato said that the value of battery EVs lies in their ability to achieve a low center of gravity and a spacious interior through optimal packaging of compact and lightweight basic components, and he emphasized that achieving this is the strength of “Battery EVs made by a true car maker”. He also stated that by creating such compact, low center of gravity, and lightweight components, it is possible to realize various lineups with good fundamental features. The FT-Se sports car concept and the FT-3e SUV concept were introduced, both of which were displayed at the front of the stage. In addition to vehicle hardware, the company also introduced the "arene" software platform. The platform enables vehicle development based on vehicle data in accordance with the needs of the user, and also allows a variety of applications to be used, thereby increasing the value of the vehicle for the user.

・The second mobility introduced is the concept mobility IMV 0 (zero). This is a mobility that can freely change its form according to the needs of the user. The vehicle itself functions as a platform, and a value chain is created by allowing users to customize the vehicle for various uses. In the presentation, examples of uses, including as a sales stand, food truck, and DJ booth, were introduced.

・The third was "Kayoibako ," a mobility system that connects people to society. Based on the concept of enriching the multifaceted nature of one person, the presentation introduced examples of use cases for one person, such as a delivery van that can utilize infrastructure data to make timely deliveries on weekdays and on weekends provide mobility for outdoor activities.

・The briefing concluded by stating that the value of future mobility will be enhanced by the users' lifestyles, and that the company believes that providing a variety of mobility options is the future of the multi-pathway approach, which the company is promoting.
