Rio Tinto begins pilot production of lithium in Boron, California, aiming for EV battery suppliers

On October 22, the Rio Tinto Group announced it has started pilot production of lithium in Boron, California.
Under a USD 10 million first phase plan, Rio expects to produce about 10 metric tons a year of lithium carbonate by chemically processing material from a pile of decades-old mining waste at the site.
