September sales in China: all four Japanese OEMs keep y/y growths

By October 10, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, and Mazda announced their sales results in China for September 2017. Sales at all four companies increased year-over-year (y/y), with Nissan, Toyota and Honda achieving double-digit increases. Nissan gained the top September sales ranking among Japanese automakers.
Nissan announced that it sold 142,300 vehicles in China, which was a 15.1% rise y/y contributed by strong sales of Teana, Sylphy, X-Trail, Qashqai and Murano, Tiida, Venucia T70 and T90. The company’s year-to-date (YTD) sales from January reached 1,019,762 vehicles, up 9.8% y/y.
Toyota sold approximately 118,900 vehicles, a 14.1% increase y/y. The automaker enjoyed strong sales of models including the Corolla, Vios and Levin. Toyota’s YTD sales reached 960,400 vehicles, up 7.9% y/y.
On October 10, Honda announced the record September sales at 139,693 vehicles in China, which was a y/y increase of 15.5%. By model, firm sales of the Civic, Elysion and Jade and strong sales of Crider and Spirior contributed to sales growth. Honda’s YTD sales reached 1,026,334 units, up 17.7% y/y.
On October 9, Mazda announced that the sales for the month in China at 29,382 units, growth of 1.2% y/y. Sales increased thanks to strong demand for the models equipped with Skyactive Technology including the Mazda3 Axela. The automaker’s YTD sales reached a record high of 213,566 units, up 11.4% y/y.
