Director, Environment & Mobility Development Center
About This Interview
Against the backdrop of accelerating electrification and increasingly diverse expectations for in-cabin value, the automotive industry is undergoing a fundamental transformation in the value proposition of the vehicle itself. Amid these changes, how can material manufacturers create additional value and contribute to realizing next-generation mobility?
Toray Industries, Inc. (Toray), which celebrated the 100th anniversary of its founding in April 2026, has positioned mobility as one of its company-wide strategic growth areas. The company is strengthening its solutions-based approach by combining a wide range of advanced materials, including fibers, performance chemicals, and carbon fiber composite materials. At the core of this initiative is the Environment & Mobility Development Center (EMC) in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, established in 2022. MarkLines spoke with Yasuo Kubota, Director of the Environment & Mobility Development Center, about the role of EMC, the overall structure of Toray's automotive business, and its future growth strategy.
