On May 7, the European Commission approved the creation of a joint venture (JV) by AB Volvo (Volvo) and Westport Fuel Systems Inc. (Westport), under the EU Merger Regulation. The JV will focus primarily on the development and sale of alternative fuel systems and components to the automotive industry.

The Commission determined that the proposed transaction would not raise competition concerns as the JV’s activities in the European Economic Area are minimal. The review of the transaction was conducted using the simplified merger review procedure.
