On May 3, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) announced that it has received 674 patents in FY 2024 ending March, displaying a 380% increase in the number of patents issued to M&M over FY 2023. M&M has conferred 1,185 patents across multiple geographies, and currently, it has 193 applications awaiting patent approval, as of March 31, 2024. 
Cumulatively, it has filed 2212 patent applications to date. The patent portfolio also includes fillings of M&M's subsidiary, Mahindra Electric Automobile Ltd. In addition to its patents, it has also got 115 designs registered and 178 new applications filed. M&M’s patent portfolio covers a range of critical functions, such as powertrain (ICE and EV), vehicle mechanical systems, electronics, manufacturing processes, electric tractors, and advanced engineering, among others.

On April 29, Mahindra & Mahindra launched the XUV 3XO SUV with a starting price of INR 749 thousand. The vehicle is touted to the XUV300 facelift model.

It measures 3,990mm long, 1,821mm wide, and 1,647mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,600mm.

It offers multiple engine options, including the 1.2 L mStallion – TGDi engine, which churns out 96 kW of power and 230 Nm of torque, the 1.2 L mStallion TCMPFi engine with 82 kW and 200 Nm, and the 1.5 L turbo diesel with CRDe, delivering 85.8 kW and 300 Nm. 

Each engine comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox and an added option of 6-speed AISIN automatic transmission for the gasolinse engines and 6-speed AutoSHIFT+ for the diesel variants. The vehicles have a fuel efficiency ranging from 17.96 km/l to 21.2 km/l.

The XUV 3XO was conceptualized at the Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai and, engineered and developed at the Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) near Chennai and is built at its facility in Nashik. The bookings of the SUV will commence from May 15, 2024, while the deliveries will begin from May 26, 2024.

It has 80+ Adrenox connected system features, twin 26.03 cm HD screens, wireless Android auto and Apple carplay, built-in Alexa, etc. It also offers Level 2 ADAS (1R1V) with 10 features including radar technology, crucial collision warnings, facilitating automatic emergency braking (AEB), etc.

Its safety technologies include a 360-degree surround view system with a blind view monitor, new-generation electronic stability control (ESC) with hill hold control and hill descent control, etc. Further, it comes with 6 airbags, 4-disc brakes, 3-point seat belts, ISO-FIX child seats, etc.

On April 23, Global NCAP announced its latest crash test ratings amongst the final tests in the Safer Cars for India campaign as Bharat NCAP becomes fully activated. As per the results, The Honda Amaze was rated two stars for adult and zero stars for child occupant safety. The Kia Carens originally scored zero stars for adult protection and after improvements from the manufacturer and a retest, achieved three stars in adult safety and five stars for child occupants. The Mahindra Bolero Neo scored only one star for both adult and child occupant safety.

The Carens was tested under the previous Global NCAP protocols reaching three stars for adult and child occupant protection and the Honda Amaze was tested under the previous Global NCAP protocols achieving four stars for adult and 1 star for child occupant protection while the model was reassessed under the current and more stringent protocols resulting in the latest results. 

The Mahindra Bolero Neo was tested under Global NCAP’s latest protocols and showed low protection for adult protection in the frontal crash with an unstable structure, unstable footwell area, weak chest protection for the driver, and poor foot protection.
