On May 7, Daimler Truck announced that it would electrify parts of its factory logistics under the "Sustainable Logistics Consulting" (SLC) service. They supported electrifying the route between the Bad Cannstatt engine plant, Germany, and the Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen plant. Logistics partner, Große-Vehne uses two battery-electric eActros 300 tractor units for engine transport, covering 180 km daily, and are charged at a truck stop until the permanent charging infrastructure is established.

The SLC service evaluates electrification routes for inbound and outbound logistics with industrial companies, involving fleet operators for optimal route planning and charging points. It includes designing a customer-specific transformation strategy, route analysis, electrification concept development, product identification for electrification, planning depot charging infrastructure, and initial operations with electric trucks.

On May 6, KUKA announced that it has found an innovative solution to optimize corrosion protection and sealing for Mercedes-Benz car bodies. Previously, adhesives and sealants were manually applied to car bodies. KUKA combines the sensitive lightweight robot KUKA LBR iiwa with the six-axis industrial robot KUKA KR 60.

This fusion allows for easy access to even hard-to-reach seams on the car body. The LBR iiwa takes on the ergonomically challenging task of seam sealing with PVC, relieving the workers. Its sensitivity allows it to detect contacts, reduce speed and force, and apply PVC materials thinly to the relevant areas.

Thanks to KUKA's innovative automation solution, the corrosion protection and tightness of Mercedes-Benz car bodies are now more efficient and reliable than ever.
