On April 25, at the Auto China 2024 in Beijing, Chevrolet, an SAIC-GM sub-brand, officially launched the Equinox Plus, its first midsize plug-in hybrid SUV. The vehicle is available in four variants, with prices ranging from CNY 149,900 to CNY 179,900.
The Equinox Plus adopts a next-generation design language with two exterior options, presenting a new trendy American style. It measures 4,653mm long, 1,902mm wide, and 1,714mm or 1,728mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,730mm. The trunk volume can be expanded from 648L to 1,619L.
Equipped with an SAIC-GM next-generation intelligent PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) system, a new 132kW/250Nm Ecotec 1.5T hybrid engine, a 2-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, and an FWD system, the Equinox Plus delivers a maximum motor power of 140kW, a peak motor torque of 315Nm, a combined system power of 272kW, a combined system torque of 565Nm, a minimum 0 to 100km/h acceleration time of 6.8 seconds, and a top speed of 180km/h.
A next-generation PHEV lithium-iron phosphate battery developed to the same standards as the Ultium platform completes the powertrain of the Equinox Plus, with a combined range of over 1,000km. The 16.5kWh- and 24.4kWh-battery-capacity variants deliver respective CLTC electric-mode ranges of 102km and 155km and respective CLTC combined fuel consumption of 1.2L/100km and 0.72L/100km.
Coming standard with dual 11- and 11.3-inch suspended displays and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, the Equinox Plus is the first joint-venture model where AI large model features are applied in volume. Some variants are available with practical features such as iKey, mobile phone wireless charging panels, and 3.3kW V2L (Vehicle to Load), plus a Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system).
Also exhibited at the event was the Equinox EV, Chevrolet’s first Ultium-based battery electric SUV.
