On May 8, ZKW announced that it has developed HD Matrix LED headlights, jointly with Audi, for Audi Q8. Development and production of the premium lighting system are based in Wieselburg.

It offers digital daytime running lights with selectable, digital light signatures that allow the headlights to be customized. The high-tech headlamp also has a dynamic indicator light and a blue ambient light for the laser.

The Q8 comes with LED headlights as standard. As an extra, there are HD Matrix LED headlights with 24 LEDs and one high-performance laser diode per headlight. Four different digital daytime running light signatures can be selected.
A high-performance laser diode illuminates the darkness in the top version of the Q8 headlamp.

The laser as an additional high beam is activated from a speed of 70 km/h and significantly increases the range of the high beam. ZKW uses the new production method, the Cobot system, to produce the Q8 headlamp. The assembly personnel work together with a collaborative robot.

On April 30, OLEDWorks announced that its Atala organic light emitting diode (OLED) technology is included in the exterior lighting of the upgraded Audi Q8 luxury SUV. For the first time, the model includes digital OLEDs on the right and left side of the vehicle’s rear lights.

A total of six panels, each less than one millimeter thick, span the rear of the car. One panel occupies each of the left and right bodyside lamps, and four panels span the continuous inner tailgate lamp. Every panel contains six high-contrast segments that are individually addressable via software control. Furthermore, the proximity indication illuminates all OLED segments when another vehicle is two meters (6.6 feet) away from a stopped Q8, which increases road safety.

On April 23, Audi unveiled the updated electrified Q7 and Q8 plug-in-hybrid versions with enhanced battery technology and efficient driving modes.

Both plug-in hybrids feature a three-liter six-cylinder Otto engine, an electric motor of 130 kW, and a new liquid-cooled lithium battery under the trunk floor. The 55 TFSI e quattro models generate a system output of 290 kW and 600 Nm torque, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds. Whereas, for 60 TFSI e quattro models generate a system output of 360 kW and 700 Nm torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds. All variants have an electronically limited top speed of 240 km/h and an all-electric top speed of 135 km/h.

The battery design features 17 cells of 70 Ah each. Six stacks form one units, which are connected in series. This compact design without additional housing achieves a maximum capacity of 25.9 kWh and providing an all-electric range of up to 90 km in urban areas. Charging at up to 7.4 kW, the battery reaches 100% in approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes.

Standard features include high-intensity LED headlights with digital daytime running light signatures, S line exterior, and a Mode 3 charging cable. The updated SUV models will launch at the end of April 2024. Pricing starts at EUR 85,500 for Q7 55 TFSI e quattro, EUR 96,000 for 60 TFSI e quattro, EUR 92,900 for Q8 55 TFSI e quattro, and EUR 103,200 for Q8 60 TFSI e quattro.
