On May 9, Bentley Motors announced the retirement of its current-generation 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine from the Continental GT, Continental GTC, and Flying Spur model lines. The company will initially phase out the current V8 version in the UK, Europe, and MEAI regions, with other areas to follow.

The end of production for Continental and Flying Spur ranges aligns with Bentley’s Beyond100 strategy, with all model lines offering a hybrid variant in 2024.

The final V8-engined Continental GT, GTC, and Flying Spur models are available currently in the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Middle East. The company plans to cease production soon with final deliveries scheduled in June. The end of production for other regions will follow later.

On May 8, Bentley unveiled the all-new V8 hybrid powertrain which is a successor to its 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 engine. The ultra performance hybrid engine delivers the highest power output ever for a Bentley, surpassing output of 750 PS with over 50 miles of electric range. This surpasses the W12 engine by at least 91 PS.

As Bentley's W12 engine nears retires this summer after 105,000 units produced over two decades, the ultra performance hybrid engine emerges as the flagship powertrain for Bentley's future lineup of electrified luxury vehicles. Further details on the electrified powertrain and its role in the brand's Beyond 100 journey will be unveiled soon.
