During an investor update, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) stated that it must adapt to the new market realities where over 50% of cars sold are SUVs. The company said it needs to launch more SUV models to achieve a similar share in its portfolio. As MSIL's current SUV market share is around 21%, introducing more SUV models will help drive incremental gains. The company also mentioned that since SUVs have larger wheels and are heavier vehicles, they tend to have higher CO2 emissions. MSIL is further assessing the government's stance on large SUVs before proceeding.
