History

Oct. 1917 Yokohama Rubber Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was established with capital of 2.5 million yen, as a 50-50 joint venture company by Yokohama Electric Wire Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (presently Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd.) and BF Goodrich (U.S.), in Uratakashima-cho, Yokohama, Kanagawa, to import and sell tires and industrial products.
Apr. 1921 Built Hiranuma plant in Yokohama and started production of industrial products (belts, hoses, etc.).
Sep. 1923 Operations at the Hiranuma plant were stopped due to the Great Kanto Earthquake.  Company headquarters moved to Kojimachi, Tokyo.
Aug. 1943 Constructed the Mie Plant in Watarai-gun, Mie Prefecture.
Apr. 1945 Moved headquarters to Minato-ku, Tokyo.
Mar. 1946 Constructed the Mishima Plant in Mishima-shi, Shizuoka Prefecture.
Apr. 1950 Listed on the Tokyo and Osaka Stock Exchanges.
Aug. 1952 Built the Hiratsuka Plant (currently Hiratsuka Works) in Hiratsuka-shi, Kanagawa, and consolidated all the plants in the Tokyo area there.
Jan. 1957 Started the production of aircraft components (fuel tanks, hoses).
Oct. 1961 Listed on the Nagoya Stock Exchange
Oct. 1963 Changed the Company name from Yokohama Rubber Manufacturing Co., Ltd. to Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd.
Jun. 1964 Constructed the Shinshiro Plant in Shinshiro-shi, Aichi Prefecture.
Nov. 1969 Established Yokohama Tire Corporation" in the US as a sales base.
Jun. 1973 Constructed the Ibaraki Plant in Higashi Ibaraki-gun, Ibaraki Prefecture.
Jul. 1973 Spun off metal hose product operations and established instead Yokohama Aero Quip, Inc. (currently Yokohama Hidex, Inc.) jointly with Aero Quip (USA)
Oct. 1974 Constructed the Onomichi Plant in Onomichi-shi, Hiroshima Prefecture.
Nov. 1983 Established Sports Complex Co., Ltd. (currently Pro Gear Co., Ltd.), a company selling sporting goods.
Nov. 1986 Built a comprehensive tire test track in Daigo-machi, Kuji-gun, Ibaraki Prefecture.
Nov. 1988 Established a tire manufacturing company, GTY Tire Company, in the U.S. as a joint venture by General Tire Company USA (currently Continental General Tire Inc.) and Toyo Tire & Rubber Co., Ltd.
Jan. 1989 Built a test track in Takasu-cho, Kamikawa-gun, Hokkaido to be able to test winter tires.
Oct. 1989 Acquired an American tire manufacturing company, Mohawk Rubber Company. 
Apr. 1991 Built an R&D Center on the premises of Hiratsuka Factory.
Jul. 1992 Merged the US tire manufacturing company, Mohawk Rubber Company, into a tire-sales company called Yokohama Tire Corporation to create an integrated company for manufacturing and sales in USA.
Jun. 1996 Established Yokohama Tire Philippines, Inc. in the Philippines, as a joint venture with Kawasho Corp., to manufacture and sell tires.
Jul. 1996 Established Yokohama Rubber (Thailand) Co., Ltd. in Thailand to manufacture and sell windshield sealants for cars, and to assemble high-pressure hoses and connectors.
Dec. 2001 Established Hangzhou Yokohama Tire Co., Ltd., which is a tire production facility and joint-venture with YHI Holdings Pte. Ltd.、Hangzhou Rubber (Group) Co.

Apr. 2002

 Established a 50/50 joint venture, Yokohama Continental Tire, in Minato-ku, Tokyo with Continental AG of Germany.
Jan. 2004 Established a joint venture, Yokohama Tire Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (currently consolidated subsidiary), in Thailand together with T Siam Commercial Co Ltd., which is the Company's distributor in Thailand.
Nov. 2005 Established a supervisory company, Yokohama Rubber (China) Co., Ltd., in Shanghai, China.
Apr. 2006 Established Suzhou Yokohama Tire Co., Ltd. in China to produce steel radial tires for TBs (trucks and buses).  This subsidiary is wholly owned by Yokohama Rubber (China) Co., Ltd., the Company's management company for its Chinese business operations.
Jan. 2007 Established Yokohama India Pvt. Ltd. as a tire sales company in India.
Dec. 2008 Established L.L.C. Yokohama R.P.Z as a tire production company in Russia.
Apr. 2009 Constructed a comprehensive tire proving ground called the Test Center of Asia, in Thailand.
Nov. 2013 Signed MOU with Korea-based Kumho Tire to exchange technology and enter into a capital alliance.
Jan. 2015 Acquired all the outstanding shares in Kameyama Bead Co., Ltd., (a company under Fujiseiko Co., Ltd. in Hashima, Gifu Pref.) that specializes in tire beads, turning the company into a wholly owned subsidiary (currently a non-consolidated subsidiary).
Apr. 2015 Established Yokohama Rubber Singapore Pte. Ltd. (currently a consolidated subsidiary) to procure and sell raw materials for tires and industrial products.
Mar. 2016 Dissolved business alliance with  Continental AG in tire business.
Jul. 2016 Completed acquisition of a 100% stake in the Dutch Alliance Tire Group B.V. (ATG). 
Sep. 2016 Established tire R&D center in North Carolina, USA.
Mar. 2017 Acquired Aichi Tire Industry Co., Ltd.
Nov. 2021 Completed transfer of Hamatite businesses to Sika Group.
Apr. 2022 Moved from the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange to the Prime Market due to the TSE's reorganization.
