Business Overview

-As major manufacturer of automotive safety parts, devices, and systems, the Company mainly is engaged in the manufacture of seatbelts and airbags. The Company has a wide range of products such as steering wheels, automotive trim, and safety devices and parts such as child-seats.

-The Company is actively working to integrate passive-safety systems that protect vehicle occupants, with active-safety systems that are designed to prevent accidents before they happen. In addition, the Company is working to develop occupant-sensing technology that is an absolute must to achieve autonomous driving.

Response to Airbag Recall

-The Company has made responding to the airbag recall and the market measures its most important and number one priority. In addition to cooperating with all of the OEMs in implementing the market measures, the Company is devoting its entire management resources toward manufacturing and delivering the necessary replacement inflators and airbags in carrying out the market measures. Furthermore, the Company is fully cooperating with the Consent Order that was agreed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), as well as other remedies agreed under the demands set out by the relevant authorities.

History

Nov. 1933 Takezo Tanaka established the Takata Company in Shiga Prefecture and began manufacturing textiles.
Jun. 2000 Acquired PETRI AG, a major German steering wheel manufacturer, and established TAKATA-PETRI AG.
Jan. 2004 Established TJK Corporation with an investment of 200 million yen, headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo.
April 2004 Spun off a new company through corporate separation. The new company took over sales and marketing of automotive safety components and changed business name to Takata Corporation.
Aug. 2004 Established Takata-Petri s.r.l. and started manufacturing air bag fabric in Romania.
Dec. 2005 Established Takata (Chagxing) Safety Systems Co., Ltd. to manufacture inflators in China.
Oct. 2006 As part of organizational restructuring in the US, TK Holding Inc. absorbed Takata Seat Belts Inc., Takata Restraint Systems Inc., Automotive Systems Laboratory, Inc., Inflation Systems Inc., TK Electronics Inc., and Takata Petri Inc.
June 2007 Established Takata Private Limited as a base of manufacturing and sales in India.
April 2008 Established Takata R&D Center Berlin by renewing existing facilities and equipment at its development center in Berlin, Germany.
May 2008 Established Takata Automotive Electronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in China and started producing electronic components.
Jul. 2010 Established Takata Petri RUS LLC as a production and sales company in Russia.
Nov. 2010 Established PT. Takata Automotive Safety Systems Indonesia as a production and sales company in Indonesia.

Jan. 2012 Established Takata (Shanghai) Vehicle Safety Systems Technical Center Co., Ltd. in China.
Mar. 2012 Acquired BAE Systems subsidiaries BAE Systems Safety Product Inc. (Current Takata Protection Systems, Inc.)  and Schroth Safety Products GmbH, to enter the aircraft safety arena and strengthen business in motor sport.
Jul. 2012 Establislhed Takata (Tianjin) Automotive Component Co., Ltd. in China。
Nov. 2012 Acquired SDI Molan GmbH & Co.KG (Current Takata Ignition Systems GmbH) to expand production site.
Oct. 2013 Established Takata Safety Systems Hungary Kft., a manufacturing and sales company for European market.
