Intelligent High-Beam Headlamp Control  "SMARTBEAM"(TM)
This system serves as an active anti-collision safety device enabling the most appropriate utilization of high-beam head lamps. In the system, a small CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) image sensor, a proprietary sensor developed by the company, monitors the surrounding road environment and automatically selects high-beam lamps as necessary. When there are no other cars on dark roads, the sensor selects high-beam headlights, and upon detecting oncoming cars' headlights or tail lamps, the systems switches to low-beam.

-The Smartbeam is installed on Gentex's auto dimming mirror and it uses standard electronic circuits. -The horizontal viewing angle is plus or minus 15 degrees and the vertical viewing angle is plus or minus 5 degrees. The cost of installation is half or one-third of that of AFS.

Since its launch in October 2004, Smartbeam has been installed on the Cadillac STS, DTS and Escalade; the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, Commander; and the BMW5, 6, and 7 series. It is scheduled to be installed on the Chrysler 300 and  the BMW X5. In addition, Japanese automakers have placed large-volume orders.
