 The International Motor Show (IAA) 2017 was held in Frankfurt, Germany from September 12 through September 24, 2017, and opened to the public starting September 16. Approximately 810,000 visitors attended IAA 2017, which featured 994 exhibitors across 39 countries and over 50 passenger car brands. Highlighting the advancements made in the automotive segment, the IAA 2017 showcased 363 innovations, setting a new record for the show.

 In recent years, demand for SUVs in Europe has rapidly grown. According to LMC, SUVs are expected to account for 28% of new passenger car sales in Europe in 2017, and account for 34% in 2020. The trend could be seen at IAA 2017, where major German automakers placed an emphasis on models such as crossovers, vans and SUVs. BMW showcased the Concept X7 and the X3 SUVs. The Volkswagen group displayed the Volkswagen T-Roc, Golf Sportsvan, and the Porsche Cayenne, while Daimler unveiled its X-Class pickup. The major German automakers also displayed a number of performance and luxury models, including the BMW Concept 8 Series, BMW Concept Z4, Volkswagen Polo GTI, Audi RS4 Avant, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet.

 This is the second report which focuses on the vehicles displayed at the IAA 2017. This report focuses on ICE models and concepts showcased by the major German OEMs, specifically BMW, Daimler, and Volkswagen. A report focusing on electric models shown by the major German automakers was previously released. Reports focusing on models shown by other automakers will be released in the future.
