On September 20, Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co. Ltd. (FAW Toyota) held a ceremony for the start of production of its TNGA2.0L engine and a project to increase capacity at FAW Toyota (Changchun) Engine Co., Ltd. (FTCE).
Featuring a lightweight and low-friction design, the TNGA2.0L engine is mated to a direct injection system, an exhaust gas recirculation system with cooling function and an electronic variable valve timing system. It can meet the China 6 emission standards as well as the Phase 5 fuel consumption limits. The engine will be installed on FAW Toyota’s new RAV4 and Avalon models and will have an annual output of 150,000.
In addition, FAW Toyota plans to increase production capacity by utilizing its current production lines. It will add the TNGA2.5L hybrid engine to its production lines and realize an annual output of 108,000 TNGA2.5L engines. It is estimated that FTCE will have an annual output of 300,000 engines that can be adopted by four models in 2021.

On October 29, 2018, Toyota Motor Thailand launched the all-new Toyota Camry, popular mid-size saloon that comes with an all-new design and platform, some new petrol engines and lower price in top-spec hybrid form. This latest generation of the Camry gets a completely new look on both the exterior and interior. Camry becomes the next Toyota model in Thailand after the C-HR to sit on the newly developed TNGA platform.
Three 4-cylinder petrol engines are available. Like before, the entry-level model is the 167hp 2.0-liter (6AR-FBS) mated to six-speed automatic transmission. Next up is the new 2.5-liter (A25A-FKB) which has a more sophisticated variable valve-timing system and higher compression ratio developing 209hp. It is mated with a new eight-speed automatic transmission. (This powertrain replaces the 181hp 2.5-liter (2AR-FE) and six-speed combination). The third one is the 2.5-liter hybrid (A25A-FXS) whose combustion engine and electric components have been re-engineered for more power and better fuel economy.
The hybrid’s combined output has risen to 211hp from the 205hp level attained in the previous system (2AR-FXE). Unlike the other 2 models running a torque-converter auto, the hybrid uses an electronic CVT gearbox.
The all-new Camry 2.0G is priced from THB 1.44 million, 2.5G is priced from THB 1.59 million, 2.5 HV hybrid is priced from THB 1.64 million, and 2.5 HV Premium hybrid is priced from THB 1.80 million.
