Motional and Lyft announced the launch of Motional’s fully electric IONIQ 5 robotaxi, offering autonomous rides on Lyft’s ride-hailing service in Las Vegas. This launch is part of the process of leading up to Motional and Lyft’s fully driverless service. It also represents the first time in which the public can ride in Motional’s IONIQ 5 autonomous vehicles and the first time a fully electric vehicle autonomous vehicle has been used on the Lyft network.
Rides on the autonomous IONIQ 5 will feature a customized user experience, differentiating it from standard rides on the Lyft service. Users can unlock the vehicle door through the Lyft app when the vehicle arrives. Once inside, users can start their trip or contact customer support from the in-car Lyft AV app, an in-ride display developed specifically for autonomous ridesharing applications.
Motional and Lyft aims to launch their fully driverless ride-hailing service in 2023, starting in Las Vegas before expanding to other major U.S. cities.

On April 7, Ford announced that Ford and Lincoln brand customers with Amazon Alexa Built-in can now teach Alexa to perform vehicle functions based on their preferred phrasing thanks to new, enhanced Car Control capabilities.
Ford will perform the world-first demonstrations of the technology at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) in the soon-to-launch F-150 Lightning electric pickup, as well as in the Ford Expedition SUV.
With enhanced Car Control, customers can tailor Alexa to their natural way of speaking, and personalize Alexa to suit their everyday vocabulary.
When a customer says, “Alexa, I’m cold”, Alexa will ask what action should be taken, such as: “I can increase the temperature by 5 degrees or turn off the AC. What should I do?”
Similarly, customers can teach Alexa personalized phrases to use with their familiar voice commands, such as, “Alexa, set the AC to full blast,” or “Alexa, set the temperature to cozy.”
In this case, Alexa will recognize the supported voice command pattern and seek clarification from the customer to learn what “full blast” or “cozy” means to them specifically.
Ford customers can access the benefits of Amazon’s world-class voice AI and intelligent features both inside and outside their vehicle through FordPass, which enables customers to use to control vehicle functions such as start/stop engine, lock and unlock doors, check vehicle range or tire pressure from their home.
