Valeo and Leoni announced a partnership to bring the best-in-class solution for zone controllers. Valeo and Leoni are already in close exchange with several European OEMs. With the combined expertise the two cooperation partners are ready for RFQ (request for quote). Zone controllers will be the nerve centres of autonomous, connected and electric vehicle architectures, real hubs of connectivity, data relay and consolidation, centralization of electronic controls and intelligent power management. Valeo and Leoni’s solution, for which pre-development has already begun, will enable more intelligence, more functionality and more power capacity to be embedded in the vehicle, while reducing overall complexity, the amount of wiring required, and therefore weight and cost. Valeo will contribute its expertise in systems engineering, software development and validation systems. A dedicated organization has been set within Valeo to drive zone controllers’ business considered as strategic.  With the development of intelligent power distribution solutions, Leoni will provide innovative power electronics to the zone controller. On August 27, Nokian Tires  announced that it has been working hard to develop premium tires for electric cars to satisfy the specific needs of the segment. Electric cars (EV) typically have high power outputs and their heavy battery packs cause them to weigh more than internal combustion engine (ICE) cars. Heavier cars also take longer to stop, putting increased emphasis on safety.
Nokian Tires utilizes several EVs in its tire tests, which provides the company with a continuous and extensive experience with the use of the tires in different car models. SUV are tall and heavy, while electric vehicles are heavier than normal due to the weight of the batteries. Large and heavy vehicles demand more from tires, which is also taken into account in product development.  Tires are also put to the test as the weight of the batteries burdens them more during cornering and acceleration, and the torque from the electric motor will be relayed to the driving wheels more quickly than in an ICE vehicle. There is a common misconception related to increased tire wear in electric cars. However, Nokian Tyres field tests proved that there is nothing to worry about.

On August 25, Peugeot launched the new e-Boxer van in the UK, fully electric Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) at a price of GBP 49,335.
The Peugeot e-Boxer is available in Professional trim, and comes in three different body styles; Panel Van, Window Van, and Chassis Cab. E-Boxer comes in three lengths: L2- 5,413 mm, L3- 5,998 mm and L4- 6,363 mm with the battery located underneath the floor and maximum load volume of 15 cubic meter, 1,150 kg maximum payload and up to 1.87 m internal width on Panel Van versions. It comes with a 5-inch capacitive color touchscreen, Bluetooth, DAB radio and satellite navigation, while the interior rear-view mirror features a display that relays key vehicle information to the driver.
E-Boxer has got two battery capacities, depending on the size of the vehicle. L2 variants feature a 37 kWh unit with a range of 73 miles (WLTP), while L3 and L4 versions come with 70 kWh battery with 139 miles (WLTP). Both lithium-ion batteries are connected to a 90 kW electric motor producing 350 Nm of torque.
E-Boxer is equipped with 22 kW Mode 3 Type 2 Charging Cable that is compatible with both single and three phase wallboxes. A full charge using a 7.4 kW single phase wallbox can be achieved in six hours on 37 kWh variants and in 12 hours on 70 kWh models. The e-Boxer also supports 50 kW rapid charging, allowing a 0-80% charge in just one hour.
