On March 16, an OTA update (corresponding Xmart OS version number 3.4.0) for the XPeng P5 battery electric sedan was pushed online. With the update installed, the City NGP (Navigation Guided Pilot), an XPeng full-stack, in-house developed and China’s first mass-produced urban navigation advanced driver assistance system, will be available in Shenzhen.
The City NGP has been available in Guangzhou since September 2022, enabling an average speed of over 40km/h in urban scenarios, which is comparable to human drivers. With City NGP becoming available in Shenzhen, and by virtue of high-speed NGP and intelligent parking features of the XPeng P5 own, the advanced driver assistance features of the vehicle will be able to cover more than 90% of daily driving and intercity crossing scenarios in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, bringing users a convenient and comfortable intelligent driving experience.
The City NGP received over 10 optimizations in terms of driving experience. For example, the reminder method and timing have been optimized in terms of taking over the reminder when driving out of areas where the City NGP works, and the system’s driving experience has been upgraded in terms of bypassing adjacent vehicles and recognizing static obstacles.
This OTA update also optimizes the experience to varying degrees in terms of the speed limit of high-speed NGP, the takeover experience of the LCC Enhanced Version and the opening of 360-degree panoramic images. For example, the system can “stand by” for up to 20 seconds when the user temporarily takes over the steering wheel while LCC Enhanced Version is running and will automatically revert to the LCC Enhanced Version when the takeover is completed, reducing the operation steps. At the same time, the maximum cruising speed limit of LCC Enhanced Version in cities is increased from 80km/h to 100km/h, which enhances the practicality and passage efficiency in some special speed-limited road. For scenarios of pedestrians or non-motorized vehicles approaching or crossing a lane, voice announcements and the “watch out for pedestrians” instrument panel SR (Surrounding Reality) prompt are added.
