On April 9, 2019, Thailand Energy policymakers announced that biodiesel B20 will be compatible with nearly all general trucks on the road in Thailand.
A guarantee letter from truck assemblers was sent to the department on April 9, paving the way for B20 to become available at 156 fueling stations nationwide.
Owners of Isuzu trucks should contact the Isuzu consultation center to check and change lube oil and car filters when switching to B20.
Also, Toyota announced that it is ready to comply with B20 fuel and that the company supports the government's initiative to tackle air pollution, mentioning that the Hilux and Fortuner models are compatible with the biofuel.
The department will further talk with ME makers to cap wax and monoglyceride content at 0.4% to avoid exceeding 200 parts per million, in line with the concerns of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association.
The next step for policymakers is to mandate B10 instead of B7.

The Energy Ministry of Thailand plans to use both biodiesel B10 and B7 at petrol stations nationwide from the end of May.
Minister Siri Jirapongphan said most diesel-based vehicles are compatible with B10, such as pickups, trucks and buses. Some 80% of diesel-powered vehicles on local roads are made and assembled by Japanese companies, Mr Siri said. European and US brands are not B10 compatible.
Mr Siri said policymakers plan to discuss this matter with relevant stakeholders, including oil traders, methyl ester makers and car assemblers, aiming to make B10 the preferred diesel fuel within a planned time frame.
"Incentives to encourage motorists to shift to B10 will be announced soon, such as a lower retail price and a collection of a levy and tax," he said.

Reported on April 5, 2019, Thailand Energy Minister revealed that biodiesel B10 is expected to be available at petrol stations nationwide from the end of April, 2019 as energy policymakers hope for a positive response from carmakers, oil distributors and biodiesel manufacturers. B10 is blended with diesel oil and 10% methyl ester (ME) from crude palm oil. The policymakers want to increase the ME content to absorb a surplus in palm oil in the crop year of 2019.
The minister said before this plan takes effect, policymakers will discuss with and try to come to an understanding with all stakeholders next week.
Moreover, the ministry already talked with the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (Jama), insisting B10 will be compatible with ordinary diesel-based vehicles, but Jama is concerned about the purified quality of ME. The minister said local ME producers will be instructed to improve the glycerin content to satisfy Jama's concerns.
