On August 1, Stellantis announced that it will invest a total of USD 99 million in three North American plants for production of a new 1.6-liter, I-4 turbocharged unit with direct fuel injection and flexibility for hybrid-electric vehicle (HEV) applications.
Based on a current Stellantis production engine in Europe, this next-gen engine will be the first HEV engine for the company in the region and will power two future North American HEV models.
Production is expected to begin in early 2025.
    • With an investment of nearly USD 83 million, Dundee Engine will be retooled and become the final assembly location for the new engine, while also continuing production of the 3.6-liter Pentastar Upgrade for the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee L, though the Tigershark 2.4-liter I-4 engine will end production during Q1 2023.
    • More than USD 14 million will be invested to convert existing die cast machines and cells at the Kokomo Casting Plant for the new engine.
    • Etobicoke Casting will produce the oil pan for the new engine with an investment of nearly USD 2 million to support the development and installation of new tooling and equipment upgrades.

On January 13, 2022, the all-new Honda Civic has officially been launched in Malaysia. The 11th-generation model, codenamed FE, has replaced the FC that remains popular to this day. This FE model discards the FC’s characteristic Solid Wing Face front bar and C-shaped tail lamps. It comes with a slimmer grille and head lamp combination and trapezoidal LED tail lamps. With the overall dimensions of (LWH) 4,678x 1,802x 1,415 mm, it is 30 mm longer, 3 mm wider, and 1 mm lower than before, while its 2,733-mm wheelbase is also 33 mm longer. The boot measures 497 liters, which is smaller than the FC model’s 519 liters. Available in 3 variants, the base E, V, and the new RS, starting prices are MYR 125,635, MYR 138,043, and MYR 144,350, respectively. All prices are on-the-road without insurance, inclusive of the government’s SST rebate that is valid until June 30.
For the first time, all variants are powered by the 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo 4-cylinder engine. Enhanced with Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC), optimized turbocharger components for improved response and a revised crankshaft and oil pan for increased refinement, it delivers 182 PS at 6,000 rpm and 240 Nm of torque from 1,700 to 4,500 rpm (increases of 8 PS and 20 Nm).
Honda Malaysia has received around 1,200 bookings since the order books started in December 2021 and is expecting to sell around 900 units per month. Deliveries will start in the following week, with expected waiting times of 1-2 months depending on the variant.

On March 23, Lanxess announced that in the manufacturing of transmission oil pans, polyamides offer numerous advantages over sheet steel or die-cast aluminium in terms of lightweight construction, cost-cutting functional integration and design flexibility. Polyamide 6 is also very well suited to the purpose, as is evident from an increasing number of applications. One recent example of this trend comes in the form of a transmission oil pan made by IBS Filtran GmbH and consisting of Durethan BKV35H2.0 from LANXESS. It is part of latest-generation automatic transmissions for vehicles from various carmakers. 
IBS Filtran has extensively investigated the oil and thermal resistance of the polyamide 6 reinforced with 35% by weight of short glass fibers. Endurance tests at 150°C in various transmission oils have shown that in terms of aging, there is no difference from a comparable polyamide 66. In fact, polyamide 6 has somewhat better impact resistance and elongation at break, which means that the oil pan is generally better able to cope with stone chippings. The excellent surface quality that can be achieved with the compound is another benefit.
These outstanding surface characteristics in the area around the oil pan gasket, for example, help the gasket to work well. Polyamide 6 also exhibits less shrinkage, which has a similar effect because it results in less warpage. The material's good weldability is another of its strengths. The inner shell of the oil filter is joined to the main body of the pan by means of vibration welding.
