On October 15, Pony.ai, an autonomous driving company, announced that it has been authorized to conduct driverless tests in a pilot zone for autonomous driving vehicles in Beijing, which means it officially began the unmanned (no one in the driver’s seat) autonomous driving tests in Beijing.
The fully automated driving system developed by Pony.ai enables passenger vehicles to achieve level 4 automated driving in urban scenarios and complex weather conditions, such as rush hours, unprotected intersections, narrow roads, mixed traffic situations which include both people and vehicles, temporary construction, rain, dust, high temperature, and other situations. In the face of special road conditions such as temporary road closure, the system, via Remote Assistance, can execute remote instructions in a timely manner, such as reversing, detouring, and pulling over, according to its perceptual information.
Currently, Pony.ai is running regular road tests and operations for its autonomous vehicles in five cities (Beijing and Guangzhou in China, Fremont, Irvine, and Milpitas in California, United States) to constantly promote the development of fully automated driving technology in China and the US.

On August 3, Minister of Road Transport & Highways met a delegation of CEOs from Society of India Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) comprising of private, commercial and two-wheeler automobile manufacturers. The delegation presented an update of the auto industry’s status and requested for deferment of emission-based regulations such as BS-VI phase 2, CAFÈ phase 2 among others such as OBD regulations for two-wheelers. The minister emphasized on the need for a quick roll-out of Flex-Fuel Vehicles (FFVs) capable of running on 100% ethanol and gasoline into the Indian auto market within a year’s time, vis-à-vis successful available technologies in Brazil and USA.
The minister congratulated the OEMs performing well on the front of vehicle-engineering and has appealed all private vehicle manufacturers to compulsorily provide a minimum of 6 Airbags across all variants and segments of the vehicle, in the interest of passenger safety. The requests of SIAM are currently under consideration and a follow-up meeting may be organised within a fortnight.

On July 26, General Motors announced that it is making its fleet telematics solution, OnStar Vehicle Insights, usable with most non-GM vehicles via a plug-in adapter, enabling fleet customers to utilize OnStar Vehicle Insights across mixed fleets, regardless of vehicle make or model year.
This expansion aims to help fleet managers save on business operations, monitor fleet vehicles and keep drivers safe using only one telematics platform.
The OnStar Vehicle Insights Fleet Adapter, created by GM’s Global Innovation team, plugs into the OBD-II port of non-GM vehicles, as well as GM vehicles built without OnStar hardware and model year 2014 or older GM vehicles.
For fleet customers who already have electric vehicles and to make the transition to electric fleets seamless for future customers, GM recently announced OnStar Vehicle Insights' integration into the Ultium Charge 360 fleet charging service.
Also available through the OnStar Vehicle Insights platform is In-Vehicle Coaching, a new virtual coaching feature created to help fleet managers keep their drivers safe.
When activated, In-Vehicle Coaching provides real-time verbal cues to drivers, including seat belt, acceleration, speeding and braking alerts.
