On April 3,  Borealis informed that it showed various first commercial interior applications, including lower dashboard, glove box and centre console mouldings used in the new Skoda Scala compact car as well as in the automaker’s new Kamiq urban sports utility vehicle at VDI Plastics in Automotive Engineering (PIAE) congress.
Borealis Daplen and Fibremod long glass fibre thermoplastic materials are also used in further Scala parts, from the interior door panels and dashboard carrier to the front-end module.
The lower dashboard, glove box and centre console of the new Skoda Scala are moulded in Daplen EE058AI, a low density 10 percent talcum filled and elastomer modified polypropylene compound from Borealis, enabling weight savings of 6.5 percent over the previous 20 percent talc solution.

On March 28, Schaeffler informed that it has been working together with several project partners to develop concepts and prototypes for new steering systems in urban applications. After a duration of three years, the “OmniSteer” group project – which received a subsidy of  EUR 1.9 million from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research – is now set for successful completion.
In combination with the “Schaeffler Intelligent Corner Module” and innovative wheel suspension that allows wider steering angles, functionally reliable mechatronic lateral and transverse (distance and lane) guidance systems have been developed that will make greater vehicle maneuverability possible in the future. Depending on the situation, the driver can switch between front-wheel, rear-wheel, and all-wheel steering. Even turning on the spot is possible.
