Eaton Corporation announced that it will display its innovative portfolio of internal combustion solutions for commercial vehicles at the IAA Transportation show in Hannover, Germany. Eaton is developing a DC-DC Converter for 48V system architectures that will enable future powertrains to comply with new emissions regulations and provide higher levels of electrical power for CO2 reduction and autonomous driving systems. Eaton offers an air-cooled electric catalyst heater controller as part of its broader 48-volt electrical system portfolio. It will present an exhaust thermal management system to reduce emissions, jointly developed with Tenneco. Eaton's decompression engine brake technology enhances brake power in the full engine operating range and is compact for easy integration into smaller engines. Eaton's positive-displacement TVS exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) pump enables the use of a high-efficiency turbo to reduce engine pumping losses and increase fuel economy. Eaton's Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) solutions are flexible and adaptable to any valvetrain architecture, allowing OEM customers to implement one or multiple functions that can significantly reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions and lower fuel use. Harbin Dongan Auto Engine Co., Ltd. (Dongan Auto Engine) announced that the company has completed prototype assembly and related acceptance tests for its in-house DAM15NTDE dedicated hybrid engine. The engine meets Stage V Emission Standard for Passenger Cars, China 6B, and RDE (Real Drive Emission) regulations. It is applicable to medium or large SUVs, A- or B-segment sedans, pickups and so on. The engine adopts technologies such as a 350-bar direct injection system, Miller cycle, high compression ratio, fully electronically controlled superchargers, a low pressure EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system, and variable oil pumps. Dongan Auto Engine plans to complete the high and low temperature tests for this engine in 2022, so that the product can be ready for mass production in early 2023. On May 19, Isuzu Motors South Africa announced that it has introduced Euro 5 technology into the New Generation (NG) N and F series range of trucks.
Isuzu Euro 5 engines come with Variable Geometry Turbocharging together with increased injection pressure (up to 2000bar). Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) has also been improved on Isuzu Euro 5 engines with a laminate EGR cooler that allows for more effective control of NOx.
The Move to Euro 5 comes with after-treatment in the exhaust system.
A combined unit comprising a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and a Particulate Oxidation Catalyst (POC) for the N-Series and DOC for the F-Series ensures that emission is limited to Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Water (H2O).
The unique advantage of the Isuzu system is that there is no need for any additives such as urea (AdBlue) to make the technology work for a clean exhaust.
