Toyota Boshoku Corporation (Toyota Boshoku) announced that it has introduced a driving simulator with the aim of enhancing the speed of development of next-generation vehicle spaces of autonomous vehicles. It will be used for evaluation and verification of developed products. Seats, door trims and other components developed by Toyota Boshoku will be installed in a movable cockpit of the simulator and it will reproduce vehicle motion including traffic environment and weather conditions. This enables product evaluation in an environment closer to that of an actual vehicle. In addition, in anticipation of autonomous driving, the system will simulate environments that are risky or difficult to reproduce in actual vehicle evaluations, such as drowsiness and wakefulness, fatigue due to long hours of driving, motion sickness due to automated driving, sudden changes in weather, and interaction with multiple traffic sources such as pedestrians jumping in the way. The system measures and analyzes driver biometric data in real time. Toyota Boshoku will introduce the driving simulator at the JSAE Automotive Engineering Exposition 2021 Online.
