On February 24, Volkswagen announced that it is making the family ID. fully electric even more sustainable, including the composition of materials for the interior. Throughout 2023, ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, and ID.7 will receive innovations that were used for the first time in the series production of the ID. Buzz 2. In addition, Volkswagen no longer uses chrome for the ID's door trim pieces, instrument panels, and steering wheel inserts, because chrome production harms the environment. The chrome has been replaced with a chrome-look liquid paint that has a bio-based compound.
Volkswagen already uses a large number of new materials in the interior of the ID. Buzz, and now they will be introduced in the other models of the ID family. For example, in numerous places within the new ID. Buzz uses alternative materials made from ocean plastic or old PET bottles. One seat upholstery material is made from Seaqual yarn, made from 10% collected marine debris and 90% recycled PES yarn. This saves 32% CO2 emissions compared to conventional materials. In the upholstery of the seats with ArtVelours Eco, the percentage of recycling is 71%.
In addition, the surfaces of the headliner and floor covering of the ID. Buzz is made entirely from recycled polyester. Recycled plastics can also be found in the insulating surface of the carpet. The same applies to components such as the underbody trim and the wheel arch trim.
