Akebono Brake Industry Co., Ltd. (Akebono Brake) announced that its 4-pot disc brake calipers and copper-free brake disc pads have been adopted for the front wheels of the Geely Auto Group’s Lynk & Co brand SUV 05+. The disc brake calipers to be supplied are opposed piston type brakes developed through the company’s unique technical capabilities and achieve superior braking performance with light weight and high rigidity. This expertise has been cultivated through the development of brakes for motor sports. Additionally, to coordinate with the development lead-time of its customer, Akebono Brake has developed a new computer simulation evaluation technology which significantly shortened the required time for product development compared to previous methods. On August 19, the Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the 2022 Elantra N, a compact car featuring Hyundai’s N performance branding. The Elantra N extends Hyundai’s lineup of N branded models after the Veloster N and upcoming Kona N.
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra N features a 2.0-liter, turbocharged, direct-inject flat power engine capable of producing 276 hp and 289 lb-ft of torque. The power can be temporarily boosted further to reach 286 hp. Transmission options include a standard six-speed manual transmission and an available eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Elantra N’s performance capabilities are further emphasized with standard N Corner Carving Differential, Variable Exhaust Valve System and Launch Control. Its 14.2-inch brake rotors use high-friction pads to enhance braking performance.
The Elantra N has an advanced infotainment system with a N-brand exclusive graphic interface, providing drivers with performance information on various systems with oil, coolant, torque and turbo meters. Drivers can also customize various handling and engine aspects through the system. Available ADAS features include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Driver Attention Warning and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist.
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra N will be available in North America in Winter 2021. Pricing details will be available closer to the vehicle’s launch date.
