On March 30, Renault announced that its experts are testing the first nine prototypes of the future electric Renault 5. Known as mules, their platform, power train, and battery is technically the same as the future production vehicle. With a design based on the Clio silhouette, the mules do not yet look like the future model.
The mules are being put through their paces this winter in low grip (ice, snow) conditions in Arvidsjaur (Swedish Lapland) as well as average-to-high grip conditions at the Renault technical centers in Lardy (greater Paris area) and Aubevoye (Normandy). The Aubevoye site checks all Group brand prototypes during their development. It runs static and dynamic tests on the new models.
Arvidsjaur region in the far north of Sweden is ideal for putting the vehicle under extreme stress. The vehicle's mechanical performance is tested to ensure that the future electric Renault 5 mules can withstand such temperatures and conditions.
The electric motor on the future electric Renault 5 will be based on an excited synchronous motor used primarily on the ZOE and Megane E-Tech electric. The model will have a new internal architecture, combining three main components the DC/DC converter that converts the battery’s 400V into 12V, the battery charger, and the accessory box that manages power distribution.
It has a new battery pack which has 4 large modules. Its placement will add rigidity to the underbody, thereby improving the acoustics and driving pleasure. The new CMF-B EV platform has taken 70% of the parts featured on the CMF-B platform used for Clio and Captur. Compared to ZOE, the CMF-B EV platform is 30% cheaper to manufacture.

On March 28, 2023, Proton officially unveiled its first mild-hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) model, the X90, at its styling studio in Shah Alam, marking Proton’s entry into the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) market, while representing Proton’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions by adopting green engine technology.
Assembled at Proton Tanjung Malim plant, the X90 is available in 4 variants ranging from standard to flagship. This latest and largest SUV of Proton gives a choice of either a 7-seater configuration or as a 6-seater featuring individual chairs for the second row. Its design DNA was inspired by Malaysian craftsmanship and rich cultural heritage.
Powering the car is the innovative 48V Electric Motor Synergy (EMS) System that seamlessly integrates 6 key components, including the 48V Belt-Starter Generator (BSG) motor, the DCDC converter, the 48V lithium-Ion battery, the Battery Management System, the Recuperation Braking System, and the Hybrid Module Control System. The 1.5L TGDi engine delivers a combined output of 190 PS and 300 Nm, while the 48V EMS provides an additional boost of 13 PS and 45 Nm. This powertrain is paired with a swift-acting 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) optimized for the new system.
The X90 is equipped with new safety features such as Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), and Traffic Sign Information (TSI).
