On March 10, Great Wall Motor (GWM) held a conference on practical information about intelligent new energy, where the new Hi4 intelligent 4WD plug-in hybrid technology was launched. The “H”, “i” and “4” stand for “hybrid”, “intelligent” and “4WD system”, respectively. The technology enables experience and performance of a 4WD system at the price and energy consumption of a 2WD system for customers.
The Hi4 technology will be first equipped in new Haval new energy models to be launched in April, and will be fully open-sourced in the future as 4WD will be universally popularized in all GWM new energy products in 2024.
The Hi4 technology features an electric 4WD configuration with dual motors in series and parallel on the front and rear axles, and has a near-perfect 50:50 distribution of axle load that enables the vehicle to have a higher performance ceiling. Coupled with the iTVC (intelligent torque vectoring control) system, the torque of the front and rear axles is intelligently distributed and dynamically adjusted in real time to improve vehicle handling stability, safety and comfort, and users can flexibly match the most suitable working mode in any mobility scenario through intelligent dynamic switching among three engines and nine modes.
The Hi4 technology includes two sets of powertrain with a system power of up to 340kW, covering compact to midsize models. The core components consist of dedicated hybrid engines, front and rear drive module assemblies, and a high-performance power battery. Specifically, the 1.5L and 1.5T hybrid engines can achieve a maximum engineering thermal efficiency of 41.5% and a fuel consumption reduction of 6% to 7%; the front drive module assembly with a transmission efficiency of up to 98% is capable of stutter-free shifting and intelligent work mode switching, enhancing power and comfort; the rear drive module assembly has a motor power of 150kW and a motor efficiency of up to 96.5%; the low-internal-resistance power battery with fast charging is capable of an electric mode range of over 100km.
In addition, at the conference, GWM announced that it has built an industry-leading energy system of “photovoltaics + distributed energy storage + centralized energy storage” and completed the deployment of “solar energy – batteries - hydrogen energy - automotive power” for the whole value chain. For automotive power, it implements a parallel development path of hybrid, battery electric and hydrogen energy; for intelligentization, it will soon launch the V4 cockpit platform with a higher computing power.
