Eberspaecher Group announced that with its new processing unit for commercial vehicles, Purem by Eberspaecher is contributing to meet current and future emission limits. Purem by Eberspaecher is offering the Compact Urea Processing Unit for series production from 2024. With a diameter of 7.5 to 13 inches, the unit can be installed in exhaust after-treatment systems of all commercial vehicles. The sophisticated design of the component ensures optimal vaporization and processing of the urea-water solution across the entire engine map, while minimizing risks of deposit formation. Where operating conditions are unfavorable, e.g. low temperatures, urea deposits can be formed in the exhaust after-treatment system. The ammonia (NH3) generated by processing the urea-water solution is distributed homogeneously in the exhaust-gas flow and reacts with the nitrogen oxide in the subsequent SCR catalytic converter to create harmless nitrogen and water. Johnson Matthey Plc (JM) and Kebotix, a U.S.-based technology platform company for new chemicals and materials, announced an agreement to explore developing the next generation of coatings for catalytic converters. Kebotix’s lab-of-the-future AI capabilities has the potential to enhance JM’s digital transformation in the chemical industry. The collaboration will seek to discover innovative methods to increase the efficiency of experiments leading to the optimisation of catalytic converter coating formulations. The project will employ Kebotix’s ChemOS Pro technology, developing machine learning models via the company’s proprietary active learning optimisation algorithms. Eberspaecher Group announced that it is further expanding its Active Heating product family with the Fractal Heater. The electric heating element reduces pollutants by up to 90 percent. It is suitable for exhaust gas aftertreatment in diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles with 48 V electrical systems. By significantly reducing pollutants, the component contributes to meet the limit values of upcoming emission standards such as Euro 7. It increases the efficiency of exhaust gas purification in the cold-start phase and low-load cycles. The newly developed heating elements ensure rapid heat transfer to the downstream catalytic converter. The required operating temperature is thus reached in the shortest possible time. If necessary, the Fractal Heater will heat up the exhaust gas purification system before the engine even starts. The Fractal Heater’s flexible construction makes it scalable in size, shape, and performance. The component offers a high heat output of up to 6.5 kW for passenger car applications in a small installation space.  The Fractal Heater can be used with metal and ceramic catalytic converters. Since the exhaust-emission conversion component is electrically operated, no additional fuel in combination with an ignition source is required. On request, Eberspaecher supplies the Fractal Heater as a coordinated overall system with the in-house-developed electrical control unit (ECU) for individual control and monitoring of the heating function.
