On September 16, Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus (VWCO) and CBMM, world leader in the production and sale of Niobium products, announced that they enter into a new partnership to develop and apply ultra-fast recharge batteries for use in EVs designed by the automaker.
“The technology that will be used in the batteries is the result of more than three years of research and development in partnership with Toshiba, in Japan. Niobium in the battery anode, will allow an ultra-fast charging operation, in less than 10 minutes, greater durability, useful life and safety,” said Roberto Cortes, president and CEO of Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus.
Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus will develop the controls for operating the Niobium battery in the vehicle.
In addition to the battery interface and parameters, VWCO will develop and manufacture the 100% electric vehicles that will be used in this project at its e-Mobility development center in Resende.
During the testing phase, VWCO will monitor and acquire real-time data, conducting vehicle application studies, especially with passenger transport modes, such as buses, that require fast charging.
VWCO will also be in charge of implementing the ultra-fast charging infrastructure and preparing the entire chain with driver training, safety guidelines and support in the development of bodies.

On September 16, Sono Motors signed a cooperation agreement for a large-scale vehicle-to-grid (V2G) project in the city of Utrecht, Netherlands, with We Drive Solar. Sono Motors will provide 100 Sion and thereby support the city in its goal of becoming the first metropolitan ecosystem to combine bidirectional charging and car sharing. Sono Motors’ Sion, the world’s first solar electric vehicle (SEV) for the masses, enables V2G use-cases through its 54-kWh battery, unique solar technology, and the bidirectional charging system.
The region of Utrecht is to connect local energy generation via electric vehicles’ smart charging capabilities, the first project of this scale in the world, with 500 bidirectional charging stations available to the public. On top of the energy produced via the integrated solar panels, all Sion will be charged using sustainable energy and will also be able to deliver excess energy back into the grid. The Sion’s discharging power of 11 kW combined with its battery, helps to reduce grid instabilities and the likelihood of blackouts. The 1.1-megawatt peak power provided by the 100 Sion is equivalent to that created by a large PV plant the size of about two football fields.

On September 16, Morrow Batteries and the Norwegian real estate developer, J.B. Ugland, signed a binding agreement that ensures the construction and establishment of Morrow Battery Innovation Centre (BIC) in Grimstad in Southern Norway. The Innovation Centre is a crucial part of Morrows ambitious vision to develop the most sustainable battery cells in the world.  
The agreement secures the establishment of the innovation centre, with start of construction later this year. J. B. Ugland will be the legal owner, and Morrow has signed a 15 years rental agreement, with option for further expansion. The ground floor of the Innovation Centre will be approximately 2000 square meters, with several floors of lab facilities and office spaces for around 40 employees.
