On September 16, MAHLE Powertrain announced it is investing USD 4 million in a new powertrain dynamometer facility in Plymouth, Michigan, aimed at accelerating vehicle development as manufacturers continue the shift towards electrified vehicles.
The new test facility, located at MAHLE Powertrain’s engineering center in Plymouth, will work alongside the existing chassis dynamometer and will support all aspects of hybrid and battery-electric vehicle development.
By enabling the early assessment of various powertrain layouts and allowing testing to be conducted before a completed chassis is available, the new facility will help manufacturers to significantly shorten the overall development cycle.
As well as full powertrain testing and calibration work, the facility will enable the development of powertrain systems, the calibration of transmissions, hybrid and battery-electric powertrain configurations, Real Driving Emissions (RDE) measurements and electric vehicle range determination.
The state-of-the-art testbed will even support the testing and evaluation of ADAS technologies including LiDAR and RADAR sensor packs, and will feature climatic conditioning down to -10°C or up to +40°C.
The dynos are supported by a 623kW battery emulator with future expansion capacity to more than 1MW.
The new facility is expected to be ready for operation in the third quarter of 2022, with several premium automotive manufacturers already requesting time allocations.

On September 16, Servotech Power Systems Ltd. announced that it has incorporated a new subsidiary, Techbec Industries Limited (TIL), which will be engaged in the manufacturing of batteries, particularly lithium-ion batteries, and other allied activities. The new subsidiary has been incorporated with the authorized capital of INR 1 million.
TIL was issued the Certificate of Incorporation on September 13, 2022, and Servotech will be holding 63.5% share capital in TIL and will facilitate its goal of indigenizing battery manufacturing for EVs, E-rickshaws, and varied solar-powered solutions. TIL intends to bring specific focus to support the electric vehicle (EV) segment and the battery-as-a-service business model offering across its portfolio of commercial vehicles. In addition to the existing State Transport Undertakings (STUs) and government fleets, TIL will also cater to all business opportunities across passenger mobility applications.
These efforts will be bolstered from their tech-enabled, newly-setup manufacturing unit at Safiabad, Sonipat, Haryana. The facility which will shortly be operational is spread over 40,000 square feet and can produce up to 600 thousand units of battery packs annually. This workshop will be equipped with fully-automated, cutting-edge production lines and testing facilities for the making of custom-designed battery modules, packs, and containerization.

On September 15, FORVIA, the world’s seventh-largest automotive supplier combining Faurecia SE and Hella GmbH & Co. KGaA, announced that it is exhibiting at this year’s IAA Transportation for the first time with its two brands Faurecia and HELLA.
FORVIA will also be presenting innovative electronics solutions for a wide range of applications. These include intelligent battery sensors (IBS) designed for 24-volt vehicle electrical systems.
FORVIA’s will present an innovative combined rain-light sensor designed for steep windscreens with a windshield inclination of 80° to 90°. It will present accelerator pedals, linear actuators for folding and closing systems as well as space-saving rotary actuators developed by HELLA for low forces for locking and unlocking systems in confined spaces.
FORVIA will present the full hydrogen system, including a complete hydrogen storage system (80 kg of gaseous hydrogen stored) and Symbio’s 150kW fuel cell stack. FORVIA will present “Heated Doser”, developed by Faurecia, which drastically reduces nitrogen oxides, especially at low temperatures. FORVIA is further developing technologies and producing Exhaust Compact Systems which optimize the engine’s thermal efficiency leading to fuel consumption reduction and as well contributing to emissions reduction.
Another world premiere is the first truck seat platform. Its modular architecture allows OEMs to produce a wide diversity of seats at the lowest development and implementation cost. FORVIA will present the brand new, modular full LED rear combination lamp for 24 V trucks and trailers.
