AGC announced that the anechoic chambers constructed in Gosselies (Belgium) for the development of automotive on-glass antennas were inaugurated on March 15, 2019. With the completion of this R&D facility, AGC has established a tri-polar R&D framework for automotive on-glass antennas in Japan, the United States, and Europe for the first time in the glass industry. AGC also designs automotive on-glass antennas in its anechoic chambers in Japan and the United States and provides customers with on-glass antennas. By completing the anechoic chambers in Europe, AGC has established a framework for accelerating the research and development of antennas to meet the demand for "connected" cars in the age of IoT and supporting its customer's automobile development on a global scale. Located in Weimar, Germany, ATBB is an established antenna technology company with an experienced, dedicated and technologically advanced team. It has spearheaded the antenna market in Europe. Desay SV will continue the investment in ATBB to enhance its competitiveness in regional and global markets. Desay SV and ATBB will work together to open a new chapter, creating high-quality intelligent products, promoting the business of Intelligent and Connected Vehicles (ICVs), and tapping into the core value for global customers and users. The advanced intelligent antenna solutions of ATBB are of great significance to Desay SV's business strategy of developing ICVs. Monterrey, Mexico-based Vitro, the leading glass producer in North America, announced that its Board of Directors approved investment of USD 60 million in new technologies for its automotive glass division.
Investments over the next 18 months will be focused on North America to reinforce Vitro’s market leadership in automotive glass, supplying both OEMs and aftermarket customers.
“Our investments include a series of technologies aimed at aligning our capabilities to become the supplier of choice for advanced auto glass solutions in windshields, coatings, laminated sidelites and sunroofs,” said Adrian Sada, CEO of Vitro.
Site locations for the new investments are currently being finalized.
“SUV growth, electrification, augmented reality displays, connectivity, emissions regulation, safety, acoustics, weight reduction, advanced sensors, advanced antennas, energy-efficient technologies and new mobility models are the disruptors that create the need for new solutions in windshields, windows and sunroofs,” said Salvador Minarro, President of Vitro Automotive Glass.
The new USD 60 million budget adds to the USD 78 million invested for new technologies over the past four years by Vitro Automotive.
